Aaron Wan-Bissaka deal agreed; Manchester United medical soon – reports

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign 21-year-old right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to David Ornstein of the BBC. This protracted deal has irked many United supporters because of the time it has taken to complete. However, the player has represented England U21s in the UEFA U21 European Championships in Italy and San Marino this summer.

The deal is said to be worth £50 million with a suggestion that United will pay Palace £45 million up front and £5 million in add ons. United are also said to have offered the 21-year-old around £80,000 per week and it was reported that he was on just £10,000 a week at Palace. Wan-Bissaka has been at the London club for the last decade, joining when he was 11-years-old. His medical could be held in the next 24 hours.

There was a sticking point in the prospective deal, which has delayed things. Palace was seeking to get the sell on clause in Wilfried Zaha’s contract removed. United sold the winger back to his former club for a deal worth £6 million during the winter transfer window in 2015. The sell on clause if 25% of the fee the club sells him for and with them seeking around £80 million for the player, that would be a considerable return.

The clause was to either be removed or reduced but United refused, based on the low fee they sold Zaha for, two years after his £10 million transfer to United, which could have risen to £15 million with add ons. It will be seen as a victory for United to keep the clause in the player’s contract, meaning that if Palace sell him this summer, they will receive a return on the player.

Wan-Bissaka will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second summer signing, after Daniel James, who arrived from Swansea City a fortnight ago. The fee for the 21-year-old will make him United’s fifth most expensive signing, behind Paul Pogba (£89 million), Romelu Lukaku (£75 million), Angel Di Maria (£59.7 million) and Fred (£47 million). Some reports suggest United are targeting three more signings this summer.

Solskjaer will be seeking to get things done before the squad embarks on their pre-season tour in which they will face Perth Glory and Leeds United in Perth, Australia, Inter Milan in Singapore, Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai, China, Kristiansund in Oslo, Norway, and AC Milan in Cardiff, Wales. United’s first Premier League match, at home against Chelsea, will come eight days after their final pre-season match this summer.
