Manchester United look set their first Dutch signing of the Louis Van Gaal era with the signing of Netherlands U16 defender Timothy Fosu Mensah from Van Gaal’s former club Ajax. Fosu Mensah is a powerful defender who can play at centre back, right back or defensive midfield who impressed United’s scouts as one of the youngest Ajax players at this years Aegon Future Cup. United are a club which continues to look at talented players across the world, with many proving themselves to be good players when they come of age.
Although the signing has not been made official yet it is believed Fosu Mensah is already in England as training for United’s U18 team begins this week and should the transfer paperwork go through in time he could have an early chance to impress at the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. Fosu Mensah looks as though he will be joined in Manchester by another Ajax and Netherlands U16 team-mate as winger Javairo Dilrosun looks set to sign for Manchester City.
Pierluigi Gollini leaves for Hellas Verona
Manchester United have also lost goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, who has now signed for Hellas Verona in his native Italy. The 19-year-old goalkeeper signed for United in 2012 and last season was part of Paul McGuinness’ U18 squad, also making three appearances in the UEFA Youth League and also appeared in Warren Joyce’s U21 side twice. Hellas Verona confirmed on Thursday that the player had completed a medical and signed for the club.
It could be a big loss for United, but as they had previously secured 17-year-old Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić, who will join his United team-mates next summer after being loaned back to FK Vojvodina for the new season, the club will be happy that they have recruited another talented goalkeeper for the future.
