Alexis Sanchez is thrilled to be joining the best club in the world, Manchester United!

Manchester United have confirmed Alexis Sanchez as their new signing. The player was seemingly destined to join rivals Manchester City this winter but Pep Guardiola’s club backed away from any prospective deal for the Chilean after it was reported United were interested in the former Arsenal player. Sanchez passed his medical on Sunday and updates his work permit in Liverpool on Monday afternoon, hours before the club made the announcement.

Sanchez, speaking about how thrilled he was to join the biggest club in the world, said:

“I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans. The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down. I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United’s first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here.”

Jose Mourinho, speaking of his new signing, said:

“Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players. He will bring his ambition, drive and personality, qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger and the supporters proud of their club dimension and prestige.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan left the club as part of the deal and Mourinho thanked the Armenian for his services to the club, especially the part he played in the clubs UEFA Europa League victory last season. The Portuguese manager said:

“I would like to wish Henrikh [Mkhitaryan] all the success and happiness that I am sure he is going to get. He is a player that we will not forget, especially for his contribution to our Europa League victory.”

Sanchez will be eligible to face Yeovil Town in the Emirates FA Cup on Friday evening, which is broadcast live in the United Kingdom on BBC One, which will kick off at 19:55 GMT. His first Premier League match for his new club will be on Wednesday 31st January against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley, which will be a thrilling encounter for the Chilean. Sanchez will have to wait a while to feature for the Red Devils at the Theatre of Dreams with United not playing there until Saturday 3rd February 2018 when they entertain Huddersfield Town, the first team to beat them this season.
