Anthony Martial given the all clear to sign for Juventus – reports

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been allowed to join Juventus in the summer, according to reports in Italy by Tuttosport. The report, also carried by The Mirror in a transfer news article, states that since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, Martial has seen his playing time affected. It is like this has been blamed on the arrival of the Chilean, rather than on Martial, who before Sanchez arrived was not in the best of form. That is another matter for another article though.

Martial has been inconsistent of late, again this seems to be blamed on the arrival of Sanchez. It really makes me wonder about the validity of the article. United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is said to admire Martial and would like him to stay at United. However, the report states that Jose Mourinho, the guy who has ‘approved’ Martial to join Juventus, is not interested in the Frenchman remaining at the Theatre of Dreams past this summer.

On Thursday last week, the Daily Mail reported that Mourinho was ready to play Martial in a more central position next season. It is said that Martial rejected a new contract from United, which set alarm bells ringing at the time taken to offer him a renewal. Martial, despite being linked with a move away from United, remains proud to play for the club. Mourinho is said to not be happy with both Martial and Marcus Rashford, both not developing as well as they should have in the wide roles they have been playing in.

Obviously, it is a bit early to suggest these reports are true. There seem to be many Manchester United supporters who feel Anthony Martial is doing just fine at United, despite the fact he is not a starter for France either. They seem to blame Mourinho for his lack of threat in a game. Against Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday evening, the third defeat this season from the three teams promoted from the Championship last season, Martial started and failed to shine like he has done on occasion this season.

Some will say there is no player bigger than Manchester United, but if you look at the Martial FC fan base on Twitter, they think Martial is so much bigger than the club and the fact Mourinho moved him to the wings, instead of the striker role he played under Louis van Gaal, which happened many times, the Frenchman largely playing on the left, this change of history makes them right and Mourinho wrong. Martial even played on the left the majority of the time at Monaco and for France after making his senior debut.
