Bastian Schweinsteiger starting to return to full fitness?

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger a name that is respected among many football fans across the world. This is mostly because of his contribution to the FC Bayern Munich side over the years. Schweinsteiger joined Manchester United at the start of the 2015/16 season and it was a season that he may be keen to move on from. There is no question that Schweinsteiger is a great footballer. However, he suffered an injury hit season and hasn’t been able to show what he can do regularly for Manchester United.

Over the 2015-2016 season, Schweinsteiger made 31 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United but only 18 of them came in the Premier League. In those 31 appearances, he scored one goal and assisted twice. But he was hit with two injuries over the season; one which kept him out for just under three months from the middle of January until the begin of March. When he returned he suffered another setback which kept him out from the beginning of April until the end of the season. Over the 2015-2016 season, he missed a total of 24 games due to injury.

During 2014-2015 season he was also hit by injury while playing for Bayern Munich. Suffering an injury that kept him out from the start of the season until the middle November and one that kept him out him out for most of April. Over the 2014/15 season, he missed at total of 22 matches due to injury and only made 28 appearances for Bayern in all competitions.

Now the two injuries that he suffered during the season were both knee injuries. As well as the injury the kept him out at the start of the 2014/15 season for Bayern. This injury was also in the knee with him suffering from Patella problems. This could be a worrying sign for the veteran midfielder as he could be starting to suffer weakness in the knees.

Schweinsteiger is currently at Euro 2016 with Germany despite missing the majority of the end of the season with Manchester United. According to reports, Schweinsteiger has said he feels ‘healthy and fit’ which could be a good sign for the midfielder and Manchester United.

Now with these reports of him feeling healthy and fit, I think that he could have a big part to play during the 2016/17 season with Manchester United’s bidding to get back in the Champions League. Both on and off the pitch, I feel that he can be a big asset to Jose Mourinho’s side offering advice when needed with his knowledge and experience within the game.

On his day he is a joy to watch. I’m sure many will agree, his ability to dictate the tempo of a game is world class. Not many players can do this like he does, the stand out players with this ability could be Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, Andrea Pirlo and Xavi Hernandez. He is getting older but I feel can still have a big part to play at Manchester United. His experience within football asset to any team. On his day there aren’t many midfielders that can match up to Schweinsteiger. Let’s hope that we can see more of Bastian Schweinsteiger during the 2016-2017 season.
