Betting Preview: Northampton Town v Manchester United – EFL Cup 2016/17

Another week, another competition in which to compete. And with things taking a sudden downturn for Jose Mourinho, a trip to Northampton Town in the EFL Cup may be the perfect distraction as youth may well get the nod in a cup competition often used to blood in the newbies. A tough one to call with that in mind, but here’s a look at what the bookies have to say on Wednesday night’s game.

Northampton Town – 11/1

Draw – 21/4

Manchester United – 1/4

A £10 stake on Manchester United to win returns £12.50 (including stake)

Goals, Goals, Goals

The lure of tipping goals galore when facing a side from the lower divisions is rather overwhelming, but things rarely ever pan out that way. Still, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look anyway. If you think there will be either over 2.5 goals or over 3.5 goals they come in at 1/2 and 13/10 respectively. Neither really look to be offering a great deal of value, and as such I’m recommending lumping on either if you fancy backing this market. As far as team goals go, the over 2.5 market for Manchester United comes in at 1/1 (evens) and yet another lump on would be preferable if one believes this will happen. Northampton to score (over 0.5 goals) is a reasonable 5/6.

Goalscorers

It’s tough to predict who will start the game, and a whole different article. However, there are certain players in with a fair shout of starting tomorrow night. One would imagine Marcus Rashford would be in line for another start, his lack of years means recovery is easier so you would look at him being almost certain. Anthony Martial is another likely to be given a runout. If you fancy either of these to score anytime then they are at 4/7 and 6/5 respectively. For Northampton, top scorer Alex Revell (who has 3 league goals to his name so far this season) is the more likely of their scorers, he is 29/10 anytime to score in this game.

Something different

If you are a fan of a more peculiar gamble, then BetVictor offers a Match Specials market, and buried deep within this market is a selection of some odd ways to stake your money. With the likelihood of Ibrahimovic starting rather low, the temptation of backing Marcus Rashford to score before the game clock hits 14:59 at odds of 9/1 may be something you look to act upon.

Bet of the Day

Today’s Bet of the day again comes from BetVictor but isn’t anything as outlandish as a player scoring before 15 minutes. My bet of the day is Manchester United and Under 3.5 goals at 23/20. It’s has potential to work either way in this game, but the usual run of things is that goals don’t always flow in these types of games. If it is looking like a United rout, then a cash out may be available for this market but not knowing which side will be picked has made me move towards this. A £10 stake on this bet returns 21.50 including your stake

All odds are taken from BetVictor.com and are correct as of 16:35 on Tuesday 20th September 2016.
