BREAKING NEWS: United make bid for Luke Shaw

Campo

Manchester United have made a £27 million bid for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw this evening according to reports on Sky Sports News. The Old Trafford club have been linked with a move for Shaw for some months now and have previously been scouting Europe to find a long-term successor for veteran left-back Patrice Evra, who has been linked with Inter Milan, joining Nemanja Vidic who signed for the Italian club in January. The speculation surrounding Shaw heated up yesterday when Daily Mail journalist Bob Cass suggested that Shaw and Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos could be playing at Old Trafford next season.

United drew 1-1 with Southampton at St Mary’s this afternoon and Shaw was replaced by Callum Chambers with 10 minutes of the match remaining. The way he reacted to his name being called out by the supporters, something said that this was his last match for Southampton. The 18-year-old has put in one hell of a season for the Saints, and I am sure the supporters will be reluctant to let him leave the club, but with Adam Lallana certain to leave to Liverpool and Morgan Schneiderlin also a target for some European clubs, it will be hard to keep the clubs current stars whilst there are clubs willing to pay good money for their services.

I really would like to see Shaw given the chance for England during the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer. Ashley Cole has not featured enough for my liking, which would earmark Leighton Baines for the left-back role, but there is no reason why Shaw should not be given the chance too. It will be good for him and his confidence, especially if he is moving to a bigger club this summer.

Next season, United will not be playing European football, well apart from a visit to Swansea City, in Wales, it will be the only time they leave the country, and thinking about it, it will benefit Shaw and any other players United might sign, as they will get a season to bed into the side whilst still being able to compete for domestic trophies. The next few months will be exciting for Manchester United supporters, as soon as the new manager has been announced, the rumours will be coming in thick and fast as United look to conduct their business, or most of it at least before the player embark on their way to Brazil for the World Cup.
