Bruno Fernandes deal could be completed this week or at the start of next week; Manchester United and Spurs leading the race

Manchester United’s interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes is turning into a saga now. Every day there seems to be reports and excitement. There was a rumour on Twitter that Liverpool has entered the race, all because the bookies odd has been reduced, which of course means nothing, really.

A Bola in Portugal carried more reports on the front page of their newspaper today and Sport Witness once again translated everything into English. In the report, it is stated that both United and Tottenham Hotspur refuse to pay the asking price for the player, in the region of €70 million. However, it is also suggested that the transfer could be completed this week, or in the worst-case scenario, next week.

The sayings from the article state that it’s the ‘last sprint for Bruno Fernandes’, ‘negotiations will accelerate in the next few days’, ‘there’s urgency from all parts for it to be done’. These have all been translated by Sport Witness and reported by them. It also states that both United and Spurs will only offer €55 million for Fernandes, not the €70 million the club is wanting.

It is also claimed that the contracts offered to the play by both United and Spurs are similar but that United is showing more interest in the player with United’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly putting pressure on the clubs board to get the deal completed. This is backed up by previous reports from last week which said similar.

United are also said to be ‘sportingly more attractive’ as the midfield departures of Marouane Fellaini, who left in January and Ander Herrera, whose contract will expire at the club this weekend suggests that Fernandes will have more chance of getting into the starting XI and that is without Paul Pogba leaving the club, which will make it even easier for him to get into the team.

Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, has been travelling between Portugal and England, trying to find out if a deal could be struck with either United or Spurs. It has been said that Spurs was interested in the player replacing Christian Eriksen, who now may not leave the club. However, A Bola has stated that a deal could be complete by the end of this week, or at the start of next week, as the worst case scenario. We shall wait and see.
