Chelsea midfielder wants Jose Mourinho reunion – reports

Manchester United have been linked with many players this summer, especially midfielders as there is a need to strengthen that area. Fabinho, Eric Dier, Radja Nainggolan and Nemanja Matic are some of the midfielders with a credible link to the club this summer. The Sun have reported that the Serbian midfielder fears that he may have played his last match for the club who lifted the Premier League title last season, also losing to Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup final, unable to do the double. Matic has been linked with Manchester United a few times, mostly during the early part of the summer with Mourinho reportedly keen on bringing his former midfielder to the Theatre of Dreams.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will be looking to reassemble his team ahead of their place back in the pinnacle European competition, the UEFA Champions League next season, where they will be expected to aim for the knockout stages after spending a season only playing domestic competitions, which will be one of the reasons they were able to fire their bid to win the Premier League title for the second time in three years. Next season could see the club out of their depth, playing two, sometimes three matches in a week, which is something that left United reeling under pressure, but they persevered, setting their priorities straight and aiming for what could get them back into the Champions League – winning the UEFA Europa League.

For Chelsea manager, sacked in December 2015, Jose Mourinho is understood to have had Matic on his list of possible recruits this summer with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier also on the list. Dier would command a fee of about £50 million, which United could afford, but Matic may be a player higher on the list in that particular position being that Mourinho has history with the player, already knowing his strengths and weaknesses – which would give him a head start in making the Serbian fit his new club – should the interest be solid, of course. Matic and Mourinho have had their differences, the player spending two years at the club under Mourinho, but he is a hard worker and willing to get stuck in, which is why Mourinho will have picked him.

Last summer, with Mourinho coming to United as the new manager, Juan Mata, signed by David Moyes in the January transfer window of 2014, was tipped to leave the club based on the fact Mourinho had sold him before but a year later, Mata remains one of the most important players at the Theatre of Dreams and also looks set to stay at the club this summer based on his work rate, ability on and off the ball, plus the fact he returned to boost the club early from injury which could have ruled him out for the remainder of the season, before returning weeks before the UEFA Europa League final. Matic could end up with the same relationship with Mourinho again, showing that the manager is able to repair past relationships with players he may not have got on with.

The Sun reported that Matic has told his ‘friends’ that he could be moved on this summer with Juventus a possibility, perhaps in a pert-exchange deal for Alex Sandro with Antonio Conte looking to bring strength back in the full-back positions this summer. There could be a possibility that Chelsea would sell Matic to United, but I am sure there would be a high fee for the player signing for a club considered as a rival, which may suggest his future from Stamford Bridge, if that is the case, could well be in Italy or wherever. I am sure that Mourinho and Ed Woodward know what is going on, or at least I hope so, and in the coming weeks, we should see a bigger picture developing with Mourinho seemingly wanting to have as much business done before the pre-season tour.
