Manchester United striker Angelo Henriquez has reportedly signed for Dinamo Zagreb in a deal worth around £780,000. The Chilean striker was purchased from Universidad de Chile in the summer of 2012 for a fee which would have risen to £4 million, but so far he has not even played a match in United’s first team. The Chilean scored 15 goals in 28 appearances for his former club, which prompted United to make their move for him. At that time, it was thought that he could be developed into a first team players, scoring a handful of goals for United, that just did not seem to happen.
Henriquez was loaned to Wigan Athletic during the 2012/13 season which ended with the player returning to his parent club with an FA Cup winners medal, something which many of the squad at that time, including Wayne Rooney, did not yet have in their collections. Last season, The Chilean striker was not granted with a chance by former manager David Moyes, with him spending the season with Real Zaragoza, scoring six goals in 25 appearances, which was not bad. The player might have thought he had a chance under the management of Louis van Gaal this season, but he was loaned to Dynamo Zagreb with the possibility of the Croatian club signing the player for €1 million.
Dinamo Zagreb manager Zoran Mamić spoke to Prensa Football, confirming:
“We have bought him outright for €1m.
“We have already signed a contract with him for the summer.
“There is no doubt it is ours and the deal is resolved.”
Manchester United have not yet confirmed anything, but recently the club sold defender Michael Keane to Burnley, with that being suggested the day before the club confirmed a deal had been agreed. So far this season, Henriquez has scored 15 goals in 18 appearances, which is some great form and the Croatian club would not be doing the right thing if they did not finalise the €1 million deal to secure the player. Whether Henriquez will remain on loan for the rest of the season or not is yet to be seen. If he does finish the season on loan from United, we will continue to report on his progress, but I do expect Dynamo Zagreb to unveil Henriquez as their player during the winter transfer window.
