Confirmed Starting XI: Alexis Sanchez starts at Wembley, De Gea back in goal, Pogba returns

Manchester United head to Wembley on Wednesday evening as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. United have started 2018 with some style, winning all five matches played and are yet to concede a single goal so far. United have beaten Everton 2-0, Derby County 2-0, Stoke City 3-0, Burnley 1-0 and Yeovil Town 4-0 – meaning they have scored 12 goals without reply.

United have been boosted by the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is about to return to full training and Eric Bailly may only be a few weeks away from becoming involved in matches himself. Last week, United signed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in a deal with saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to London. Jose Mourinho also extended his contract, which could see him at the club until 2021.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have played 187 matches in the history of both clubs – the first match was played on the 28th January 1899; a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup, the replay resulting in a 5-3 defeat for Newton Heath. United have won the most matches with 89 victories, drawing 48 times and losing 50 times in all competitions. The longest unbeaten run against Spurs lasted 26 consecutive matches between the two clubs starting on the 29th September 2001 with a 5-3 victory, lasting until the 4th March 2012, a 3-1 victory.

During that run, United won 21 matches, drawing five, scoring 54 goals, conceding 14 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets. The last time United were beaten by Spurs was at the end of last season, a 2-1 defeat in the last ever match played at White Hart Lane. United won the reverse fixture earlier this season with Anthony Martial scoring the only goal of the match.
