Confirmed Starting XI: Bayern Munich v Manchester United; Rashford, Sanchez and Mata lead the line

Manchester United face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Sunday evening in what will be their final pre-season match of the summer. United travelled to the United States of America on their pre-season tour where they drew 1-1 with Club America, drew 0-0 with San Jose Earthquakes, beat AC Milan 9-8 on penalties in the first match of the International Champions Cup, then lost 4-1 to Liverpool, before beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the final match of the American leg of the tour.

United will open the Premier League season at Old Trafford on Friday 10 August against Leicester City, a day after the summer transfer window closes with Diogo Dalot, Fred, and Lee Grant all signing for United so far. There is also speculation that suggests Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld could be on his way to the Theatre of Dreams before the transfer window closes. However, more could have been done to give this United side a chance to take on the might of Manchester City this season.

Manchester United:

De Gea;

Darmian, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw;

Fred, Herrera, Pereira;

Mata, Rashford, Sanchez

Grant; Fosu-Mensah, Jones, Mitchell, Smalling, Tuanzebe; Garner, McTominay; Chong, Greenwood

United and Bayern Munich have gone head to head in competitive matches eleven times since 1998, all whilst playing in the UEFA Champions League. United have won just twice; the treble-winning team in 1999 beat Bayern 2-1 in Barcelona, scoring twice in added time – “Beckham into Sheringham, and Solskjaer has won it.” United also won at Old Trafford in 2010, winning 3-2 but exiting the tournament 4-4 on aggregate, on away goals. The last time the two sides played was four years ago,  United drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford, losing 3-1 in Munich, losing 4-2 on aggregate. Time for a United victory again?
