Confirmed Starting XI: McTominay, Matic and Pogba run the midfield, Shaw on the bench, again!

Manchester United face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Monday evening. Fresh from their 2-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend, United may well have turned a corner after their poor run of results in the last few weeks.

United did return to second in the league after beating the reigning Premier League champions, but after Liverpool beat Newcastle United on Saturday, Jose Mourinho’s side slipped back into third place this weekend, which could see Liverpool occupying the second spot for more than 48 hours, which is something they will probably celebrate.

Manchester City continued their great run this season by beating Chelsea, albeit by only one goal, opening up a 19 point lead over United.

Manchester United:

De Gea;

Valencia, Lindelof, Smalling, Young;

McTominay, Matic, Pogba;

Sanchez, Lukaku, Lingard

Substitutes:

J. Pereira; Bailly, Shaw, Darmian; Mata, Carrick; Rashford

Manchester United and Crystal Palace have played 52 matches in the history of both clubs – the first match being played on the 26th August 1922, a 2-1 victory for United. In total, United have won 35 matches, drawn ten times and lost seven times.

The last defeat to Palace came on the 30th November 2011 in the League Cup with Wilfried Zaha knocking United out of the competition at the time. There have been ten matches since that defeat with United winning nine times and drawing just once.

United’s longest unbeaten run against Palace lasted 13 games, from the 30th November 1991 to the 5th March 2005. United won ten times and drew three times, scoring 28 goals, conceding six goals and keeping nine clean sheets. United beat Palace 4-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season. Many will want to see a performance like that on Monday evening.
