Danny Rose set for talks with club officials, with Manchester United monitoring his uncertain future

Danny Rose is set to hold decisive talks with Tottenham Hotspur officials later this week about his uncertain future at the club, as both Manchester United and Chelsea begin to step up their interest in the English international, as reported by The Independent.

Danny Rose’s future at Tottenham has certainly been under question in recent weeks, particularly following the 27-year-old’s rather open comments in which he publically criticised the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market, thus questioning the stature and ambition of the club itself. Despite there having been no official bids for Rose as of yet, both United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in monitoring the Englishman’s situation, as both clubs are keen to strengthen their defensive area.

The left-back spot for United is certainly a rather depleted one at present time, as following Luke Shaw’s recovery from injury, the Red Devils have predominantly had to operate with make shift left-backs, with defenders such as Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind having to step in. Although United have undoubtedly started off the season with a bang, claiming back-to-back victories and clean sheets, fans have however picked that left defensive spot as the side’s weakest area.

United were linked with a move with Rose a couple of weeks ago from various news outlets but speculation quickly faded away, with the rumours seemingly have generated from Rose’s comments about the club, with many people rushing to the conclusion of him simply being unhappy at the club. The news report from The Independent on Tuesday does, of course, add more fuel to the fire, as they do state that Rose is open to a move away from Tottenham, the club that handed him his first ever Premier League start.

However, after already releasing Kyle Walker to Manchester City this summer window, Tottenham are inevitably reluctant to let Rose go, as he is, of course, the club’s number one left-back under Mauricio Pochettino. Daniel Levy’s £50 million valuation of the player does, of course, stem from the Walker deal itself, with the club demanding that they receive the same transfer fee for each player.

Is the deal therefore likely?

As mentioned, the rumours surrounding Rose’s future did quickly die down a couple of weeks ago, despite his comments about the club not going down too smoothly. The Englishman was hit with a fine from Tottenham and was also forced to apologise for the remarks made. With The Independent reporting that the player and club officials are set to meet for talks this Wednesday, perhaps it would be wise to await an official announcement from Tottenham themselves, before rushing to any hasty conclusions in automatically linking the player with a move to Old Trafford.

The Rose speculation has of course seemingly rather overshadowed the return of Luke Shaw, who has returned to full-time training with the senior side. The fitness of Shaw is arguably the biggest factor as to whether United decide to place a bid for Rose as if Shaw can get back on track and replicate his impressive form found under Louis van Gaal, the arrival of Rose would, of course, be a rather unnecessary one.
