David De Gea injured training with Spain; doubtful for friendly with Germany on Tuesday

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has withdrawn himself from the Spain international squad for the European Championships qualifier against Belarus on Saturday. The Spaniard has reportedly dislocated his finger training with his team-mates on Friday. Spanish news source Marca reported that the injury came about when De Gea tried to get a hand to a low shot stuck by Paco Alcácer, but picked up a knock on his hand at the same time.

De Gea was seen immediately by the team doctors and he was withdrawn from training immediately. Vicente del Bosque’s plans for a start against Germany in their friendly on Tuesday evening, but this injury has placed a doubt on him being able to play so soon. At this moment in time Manchester United supporters will be worrying ahead of the next Barclays Premier League match away to Arsenal a week on Saturday, which would ultimately be a big blow should this injury rule him out of that match.

Obviously it is early days regarding the injury, which one source in Spain has suggested was a dislocated finger, yet no official statement confirming the injury has been released. I am sure the coming hours or even days will confirm whether this is something to worry about or not, hopefully the latter. De Gea has been a rock for United so far this season, and any sudden absence could derail the clubs already shaky defence. Anders Lindegaard may get to feature for his club for the first time this season, which many will not see as ideal, but if it come to that, it will have to do.
