It is being reported by the Express that Louis van Gaal’s rebuild of the Manchester United squad will begin in his homeland, as he looks to complete a £30million double swoop for Feyenoord pair Jordy Clasie and Bruno Martins Indi.
The new United manager has brought both players into the Dutch national side in the last two years, and both played an important in securing qualification for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
With the pair just 22 years old, Van Gaal sees both as the ideal recruits to kickstart his new era in charge at Old Trafford, and will look to seal a move once the World Cup is over.
As an impressive young playmaker, Clasie has often been labelled the ‘new Xavi’, with similarities between him and the Barcelona star being based on his small stature, accurate passing and excellent vision. Martins Indi has also had an impressive start to his career at Feyenoord, leading many to draw comparisons to former United favourite Jaap Stam.
With rumours surrounding United’s transfer activity rife this summer, it is no surprise that van Gaal is being linked with a move for members of his Dutch side. This had become more expected following the reports that he is not interested in signing Toni Kroos, a primary transfer target for his predecessor David Moyes.
Should this move become a reality, the Dutch pair could be adding to a squad that includes Luke Shaw, as it is being reported that van Gaal has approved the move for the England youngster. The possible additions of a creative midfielder and commanding centre back will be music to the ears of most United fans, as they look to improve on last season’s seventh place finish.
With just days to go until the start of the World Cup, it is already proving to be an extremely busy summer for United, and the rumour mill is already going into overdrive. It is clear that van Gaal is aware of the weaknesses in the current United squad, and this suggested flurry of activity looks likely to be the first step in his master plan to return United to the summit of the Premier League.
