Emmanuel Boateng dreams of playing for Manchester United but right now, he needs to make something of himself

Levante striker Emmanuel Boateng has stated that he would like to play for Manchester United or Barcelona. The 22-year-old is seen somewhat as a rising star in La Liga and he seems to know where he wants to take his career. Who would not want to play for Manchester United or Barcelona? During the past season, after a turbulent period, Boateng scored a handful of goals, registering a hat-trick against Barcelona in the 5-4 victory, which ended Ernesto Valverde’s unbeaten run.

The Ghanaian’s form even saw him being called up for his national team against Japan, winning 2-0 with Boateng scoring a penalty in the game. The season has seen him earn some plaudits and register some memorable goals against one of the teams he would like to play for, which has the 22-year-old dreaming big for the future. Most young footballers would love to play for teams like United and Barca but getting there is part of the problem – not everyone is wanted by these giant clubs.

Speaking at a 442gh event recently, which was reported by The Mirror, Boateng told the world about his dreams for his career. He stated that he saw himself playing for one of the greatest clubs in the world in five years, at that stage he should be in the peak of his career, achieving some major things in order to be seen as a player deemed capable of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is great to have dreams and they do keep you focused at times but it is going to be a hard dream to achieve. Boateng said:

“I always dream big, I see myself playing in one of the great clubs of the world in the next five years. Big clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona excite me.”

Boateng started his career in Portugal playing for Rio Ave, coming from their Academy, of which he joined after impressing during a trial. He left Rio Ave in July 2015, signing for Moreirense where he was mainly a substitute during his debut season, becoming a regular in the team during his second season at the club, which also turned out to be his final full season. on the 16th August 2017, Boateng signed for Levante on a four-year contract.

Despite playing twice for Moreirense at the start of the season, Boateng made a total of 27 appearances for Levante, 16 of those from the bench. He scored seven competitive goals in La Liga and the Copa del Rey, playing as a centre-forward the majority of the time, also filling the right-wing role, which is an area United are in the market for this summer. It has been suggested that Mourinho is seeking a player to take the pressure of striker Romelu Lukaku this coming season with both Marko Arnautović and Mario Mandžukić being linked to the club.

Whilst Boateng is not a typical target for United, the fact that he offers something that United may need, despite not being tested at a big club in the early stages of his career, could he be a player that United could look at and bring in to help take the pressure off. Despite dreaming of playing for a club like United, there is nothing to suggest that the player will be what United need this summer. Next season is going to be an important one for both United and Jose Mourinho with Manchester City a team they need to find the comparable form of.

Boateng seems to have high hopes, I do hope he understands that just because someone wants to play for United, it does not mean they are going to break the walls down for him. Fabinho wanted to sign for Manchester United at a stage and spoke to the media about his dream, yet the club were clearly not interested in him and earlier this summer, he signed for Liverpool instead. He might be a player to keep an eye out for as he will have expectations of him following his hat-trick against Barcelona, but it will be a long road for him.
