Manchester United and England U21 winger Wilfried Zaha is according to reports a target for Dynamo Moscow this summer. The Sun report that the Russian club who have already signed Dutch left-back Alexander Büttner this summer, will swoop for Zaha, who is yet to find out what the future holds for him at the Old Trafford club under new manager Louis van Gaal. Zaha who was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in January 2013 for a £10 million fee, rising to £15 million based on add-ons, the player was then loaned back to Crystal Palace in their bid to win promotion to the Barclays Premier League, they did this by winning the Championship play-off where Zaha was an integral figure in their promotion.
Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season and David Moyes replaced the outgoing Scot. Zaha was taken on the clubs pre-season tour of the Far East last summer and did well. He also played in the FA Community Shield against Wigan Athletic which United won 2-0. Zaha waited until October 2013 where he made his Capital One Cup debut for United in a 4-0 victory over Norwich City, but did not feature for the first team again until December where he made his Barclays Premier League debut against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, in which the Red Devils lost 1-0. The England U21 winger played in United’s 3-0 victory away to Aston Villa on the 15th December before being loaned out to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Cardiff City for the remainder of the season.
Zaha was effective shut out by David Moyes, but there was some fault of his own and that seems to have been the players attitude, which could be something that he has sorted after spending six months on loan with Cardiff City, who were relegated at the end of the season. Whether he has a future or not at United will be up to Van Gaal and I am sure he will give the English winger a chance to shine on the pre-season tour of the United States of America, which the team leaving at the end of next week. Only six players have been named in the squad so far with around 17 more players expected to travel.
Dynamo Moscow, if they do fancy their chances to land Zaha will have to pay around £10 million to secure him with Newcastle United also monitoring the situation, presumably because too many French players could rock the boat at the “wee club on the North East”. The England U21 international deserves a change at the Old Trafford club, especially with the poor form of Ashley Young and Nani have been in over the last season. With Zaha’s raw talent and pace, he could be a star under Van Gaal. Just why David Moyes was not keen on taking a chance may never be known, but it is a chance he should have taken. Sir Alex Ferguson did not make a mistake signing Zaha, the boy does have the talent to succeed.
