Guardiola rules himself out of United job

Pep Guardiola has joined Jürgen Klopp in distancing himself from the vacant managerial position at Manchester United.

The Bayern Munich manager, who many believed would eventually take the hot seat after Ferguson’s retirement before ultimately replacing Jupp Heynckes at Bayern Munich, was quick to rule himself out of the running, by stating that he had plenty of work still to do with the reigning Champions League winners.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Champions League Semi-Final First Leg against Real Madrid, Guardiola was very clear on his intentions. As reported by The Guardian, Guardiola was quoted as saying

“I signed for three years. I am here, I am Bayern’s and I want to stay here for two more years to do my job.

“We won the Bundesliga but I feel that we can still improve. I still have a job to do.

“I want to stay here because I am comfortable here, the people are such gentlemen in my work and I want to stay a little bit longer.”

Bayern’s press officer then cemented Pep’s position by stating:

“Tell the people in England: no chance.”

The news will come as a disappointment, but hardly a surprise, to most United fans, with most realising that Pep would most likely be unattainable due to the fact he hasn’t even been the manager of Bayern Munich for a full season yet.

Instead, the news that would have dampened most United fans’ mood would be the news that Jürgen Klopp is not interested in the job at this moment in time. Most saw him as the ideal candidate to take over thanks to his innovative philosophy, confident attitude and his history of bringing through youth. With him intent on honouring his contract which expires in 2018, Louis Van Gaal now seems like the most likely candidate for the job.
