Ibrahimovic could be back sooner than expected, Mourinho to swoop again?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly on course to be fit and ready to play football in October after suffering a season-ending knee injury against Anderlecht in the UEFA Europa League at Old Trafford back in April. The Swedish striker missed the run in of the season and also the Europa League final, which United won by beating Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm, Sweden. Ibrahimovic was released by United at the end of the season but has been trying to overcome his knee injury at the clubs AON Training Complex in Carrington and now The Sun are reporting that United will offer the veteran striker a new deal at the Theatre of Dreams, which will see him added to the strike force alongside Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

At the time of the injury, it was thought that it could be career ending for the 35-year-old who had scored 28 goals for the Old Trafford club in all competitions, scoring the winning goals in the FA Community Shield and in the EFL Cup, now the Carabao Cup. The Swede also showed former United captain Wayne Rooney up with the player at the time nearly five years the Swede’s junior, showing that his United career had reached the beginning of the end, which came to an end this summer with his last appearances in Michael Carrick’s testimonial at Old Trafford at the start of June, where Rooney was also shown up by Clarence Seedorf, a player ten years his senior.

Despite the Swede being released by United this summer, the player has stayed in Cheshire to regain full fitness and has not yet signed for any other club. The Sun suggests that United’s medical staff are amazed by Ibrahimovic’s recovery from his knee injury, which at the time he had surgery in the United States of America, the surgeon wanted to have him back based on his ability to recover quickly, which is a good sign especially after having thought not only his season but his career could be over at the time the injury struck. It was reported by the newspaper that Jose Mourinho could offer Ibrahimovic a new short-term contract in January, but the fact he could be back in action just two months after the start of the Premier League season could change that.

Ibrahimovic employs his own full-time physio and had done whilst playing for Paris Saint-Germain, working in conjunction with United’s medical staff and with the news that the Swede could be back earlier than expected, it might see Mourinho re-sign the player this summer to bolster his attacking flair, which could see United go a long way in all competitions next season, keeping the likes of Lukaku and Rashford fit throughout the season by not having to play one or the other in certain competitions. Ibrahimovic is keen to get back to full fitness ahead of the new season starting with United opening their Premier League season at Old Trafford to West Ham United.

Ibrahimovic has had offers from the MLS and China, but his first choice would be to remain at United where he could effectively continue where he left off, in a lesser role obviously, which could see his experience rub off onto both Rashford and Lukaku, which would be a winner for the pair. The Sun were right with their report that Michael Carrick would be the clubs new captain, also stating that Ander Herrera would be named as the vice-captain, which has not yet been confirmed by the Old Trafford club, they were wrong about last Thursday being ‘Morata day’, but it instead turned into Lukaku day with the initial reports of United agreeing on a fee with Everton for the Belgian surfacing.
