Inter Milan warned to hurry up if they want to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer

Manchester United has reportedly warned Inter Milan to hurry up if they want to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer. The Belgian striker has been linked with a move to Serie A all summer after he stated Antonio Conte was the best manager in the world. There have been a number of suggestions of offers for the 26-year-old with a two-year loan deal with a purchase at the end of the term to a £54 million offer to buy him this summer – both seemingly being rejected.

Lukaku travelled on the clubs pre-season tour to Australia, where the club beat Perth Glory 2-0 and Leeds United 4-0, before heading to Singapore, where they beat Inter Milan 1-0. With the club currently in Shanghai where they will face Tottenham Hotspur later today, it is expected that Lukaku will once again sit out of the match, despite being fit to play, as the club wants to keep him injury free, which suggests that a move is on the cards.

United paid £75 million to sign Lukaku from Everton two years ago and based on the fact the player has three years remaining, before the clause option of another year is added, it gives United all the decision-making ability in terms of agreeing a fee to let the player leave this summer. This is why Inter Milan have not been bowed down to, as that is not something United should be doing. For years, players who have left the club have done so on the cheap.

There are just two weeks of the transfer window left in England with the window for Premier League clubs again closing before the first match of the season, meaning that United has until 5 pm on Thursday 8 August 2019 to sort out their squad for the new season. I would imagine that there is some kind of deadline in letting Lukaku go as United would need a replacement. However, with the fact that the window in Italy closes later than the one in England, Inter might try and test their luck.

It was reported on Wednesday that Inter are set to offer Ivan Perisic to United as part of the deal to take Lukaku to Italy, however, it has been two years since United were interested in the Croatian winger and now that he has hit the age of 30, he no longer offers what United are seeking. Jose Mourinho wanted Perisic, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants youth as part of his squad. If United accept this deal, it will show a massive weakness.

Solskjaer is said to be holding firm with the Lukaku situation but there must be a point in the future that United would ignore the Italian club, which must be around the time the transfer window closes. United has been linked with Wissam Ben Yedder as a replacement for Lukaku, should he leave the club this summer, which would show that Marcus Rashford might be handed the role as the first choice striker again this coming season.
