International Reds: Schneiderlin, Martial, McNair and Schweinsteiger all celebrate victories

Manchester United have many players who will represent the club during the international break over the next four days or so. On Friday evening, the France beat Portugal 1-0, Germany beat Poland 3-1 and  Northern Ireland beat the Faroe Islands 3-1. Heading into the weekend will see more of United’s player represent their countries. Here is how I feel the player fared on Friday evening.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Portugal 0-1 France

Morgan Schneiderlin played 45 minutes in the 1-0 victory over Portugal in a friendly ahead of next summers European Championships. Schneiderlin replaced Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye at the start of the second half and was assured from the moment he stepped onto the pitch. The French midfielder successfully broke up play and created one or two chances. France scored on the 85th minute with Mathieu Valbuena scoring the winner after being on the pitch for just five minutes. France take on Serbia in another friendly early next week.

Anthony Martial – Portugal 0-1 France

It has been a massive week for Anthony Martial. Signing for Manchester United on Tuesday, then making his senior appearance for his country on Friday. It will only get better for the 19-year-old next week, who could play for his country again, followed by his debut for Manchester United, at Old Trafford against Liverpool. The striker did not really have much time to have any influence on the game, having replaced Karim Benzema on the 74th minute of the match. France take on Serbia in another friendly early next week.

Paddy McNair – Faroe Islands 1-3 Northern Ireland

Paddy McNair played 12 minutes in the 3-1 victory over the Faroe Islands in a European Championships qualifier, which sees his side near enough qualifying for next summers tournament in France, reaching the summit of the group on Friday evening. The Manchester United defender replaced Kyle Lafferty on the 78th minute of the match, partnering former team-mate Jonny Evans, who left the club for West Bromwich Albion this summer. Northern Ireland are currently top of group F, a point ahead of Romania.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Germany 3-1 Poland

Bastian Schweinsteiger played 90 minutes for his country in their 3-1 thrashing of Poland in the European Championships qualifier in Frankfurt. The German captain saw former Bayern Munich team-mates Thomas Müller and Mario Götze score, with the latter scoring twice. Schweini was very strong in his positional play, which made up for his lack of pace, something that could be a worry for United, but with the likes of Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial in the side, that may not be a big worry. Schweinsteiger put in good defensive cover in the dying minutes of the match. Germany are currently top of group D, two points clear of Poland.
