Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to make a remarkable return to Old Trafford?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic truly is a name that just cannot escape the headlines. The big Swede, who arrived at Old Trafford back in July 2016, became arguably the most talked about player amongst football fans across the country, as English fans couldn’t wait to see the illustrious striker perform in the Premier League. It would be a fair assessment in stating that his short stay in Manchester was a relatively successful one, in which he was Manchester United’s top goalscorer with 28 goals and also managed to add three more trophies to his already impressive collection.

Although Ibrahimovic initially signed on a one-year deal, understandably considering he did join as a 34-year-old, many did expect the prolific striker to extend his stay, particularly following his establishment as United’s number one striker. However, back in April this year, Ibrahimovic suffered serious ligament damage to his right knee during the red’s UEFA Europa League clash against Anderlecht, an injury that was expected to keep him out for at least 12 months.

The injury certainly looked a painful one, with all 95kg’s of the striker’s weight crashing down onto his solely planted right leg. Despite this, as we have all learned since Ibrahimovic arrived in England, he simply isn’t your average human being and rumours have surfaced that he could soon make a remarkable return to football, even as early as this January. In fact, as reported by The Independent, the doctors who treated Ibrahimovic for his injury were so impressed at the physicality and fitness of the Swede, that they wished to conduct more tests on him for further research.

Following this quick recovery, there have inevitably been rumours circulating around a potential return from Ibrahimovic back to the Theater of Dreams. As reported by both The Metro and The Sun, Ibrahimovic has stated to photographers that he does have a ‘big announcement’ to make later on this week. These reports have further been fuelled, following recent photographs showing Ibrahimovic meeting up with his iconic agent, Mino Raiola, today in Manchester. The footballing agent, known for his big money deals with his high-class clients such as Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Mario Balotelli etc, did in fact state back in May this year that Ibrahimovic does wish to stay with Manchester United.

Although all this speculation around Ibrahimovic is of course expected, with him continuously teasing fans with Instagram pictures and of course, Raiola adding fuel to the fire by stating that the striker has ‘many offers’, one simply never knows what exactly is going on in the world of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. If the big Swede is expected to make a remarkable return in January, then maybe fans can work this out through the upcoming transfer activity by Manchester United. Should the club not pursue any other attacking prospects, alongside Ibrahimovic not announcing himself with another club, maybe United fans will see the superstar in the red jersey once again.
