Ivan Perisic preparing for life at Manchester United – reports

Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic is preparing for life at Manchester United this summer according to The Mirror. United have not yet agreed on a fee for the player with his club but the Manchester Evening News have suggested it would only be a matter of time before that was the case. Perisic is believed to be interested in working with United manager Jose Mourinho and the fact United are in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League next season only drives the interest for the Croatian even more with Inter being absent from the competition for the last four years. Perisic, however, is content with life in Milan but sees this as his chance to play in England after previously playing in France, Belgium, Germany and now Italy.

Inter have until the end of the month to raise £26 million in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, so selling a player is a must for them. The San Siro club have recently appointed Luciano Spalletti as their new manager and he will want to make tweaks to his squad ahead of the new season in a bid to return the Milan club to the top with the likes of Juventus and Napoli being the top clubs in the Serie A at this moment in time. Perisic is a hard worker, which is something Mourinho has seen and wants in his squad at United next season. United have some great players at the club already, but in terms of quality replacements, that is where United have struggled, especially in the Premier League last season.

The 28-year-old Croatian winger will give United and Mourinho a more direct option going forward, especially in the final third. Perisic is a player comfortable on the ball and under pressure and the fact he runs down the byline and is dangerous when swinging in a low ball or a delightful cross, it will be beneficial to United next season, possibly with Alvaro Morata linking up with the Croatian, which would give United a decent attacking line next season, especially if you add the likes of Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and even Juan Mata to the lost of attacking players, even Paul Pogba who could find himself being unleashed so he can play to his strengths, which will make his critics eat their words.

Inter manager Spalletti refused to get drawn on the speculation surrounding his winger. It is probably the best thing to do at the end of the day. Managers who give too much away during this time of the year could end up regretting saying anything. Stating that you will not give any update on the rumours surrounding players does not commit you to anything and neither does it give journalists any information, so they will continue the speculation the best way they know how to, usually by jumping to conclusions. The Mirror reported Spalletti as saying:

“I’ll avoid answering on Icardi and Perisic for now. There are strong players at Inter but they have to get into the team mechanism. It must be the team that works. I want all the players who are able to donate something to their team-mates with their quality.”

I am sure Mourinho has another target in mind if he is unsuccessful in his pursuit of Perisic but the fact the club have not ended interest in the player like they did with Antoine Griezmann earlier in the summer, that would suggest that the Old Trafford club still thinks a deal is possible for the Croatian. As Inter need to meet Financial Fair Play regulations by the end of the month, as the days and weeks progress, the longer any deal may take the club may become desperate to conduct business in order to avoid being sanctioned for breaking the financial regulations. I think there is a very good chance of Mourinho signing Perisic this summer, nothing may be imminent, but things can chance quickly, especially at this time of the year. United will want players in before pre-season if they can and I am sure Inter Milan would not want to wait until closer to deadline day before replacing any players who may leave the club this summer.
