Ivan Perisic to force a move away from Inter Milan this summer?

Manchester United’s pursuit of Inter Milan’s Croatian winger Ivan Perisic is not over yet after reports suggest the player has told his agent to help him force a move to the Old Trafford club this summer. Friday 30th June 2017 seemed to be a sort of deadline for United manager Jose Mourinho with that being the day Inter needed to ensure they had €30 million (£26 million) to match the Financial Fair Play regulations set two years ago after the club breached them previously. United had placed a bid for the player earlier in the summer, but it was less than Inter’s valuation of the player with the Serie A club holding firm with their valuation asking for more than £40 million for the Croatian.

Friday’s deadline for Inter came and went with reports suggesting that the club managed to scrape the cash together, ending the fear of more changes to be made for not meeting the FFP regulations. United were thought to have the advantage in that the club needed the money, but seemingly they managed to gather the fund without selling a single player, which will be seen as a victory for Inter, at this moment in time at least. Now Goal have come up with a story, also carried by The Sun, suggesting the transfer pursuit is not over for United as the player has not informed his agent to ensure the breakaway is complete this summer with the Croatian seemingly heading to Old Trafford, if a move can be agreed, which could irk the Italian club.

Inter do not need to sell players this summer, they have the funds to reinforce their team, which is what rivals AC Milan have done in their bid to cut down the domination of Juventus, so Inter will be wanting to at least challenge their San Siro rivals, meaning they will be looking to keep their best players, of which Perisic is one, adding more talent to their team this summer in a bid to better their league position next season. The report in The Sun suggests that Perisic already has an agreement with United, where he will be paid £100,000 per week, an agreement in principle but Inter will be holding out for their valuation to be met, of which United feel they can get a better deal for the player.

I understand that the club may not want to sell the player, but it is clear Perisic is not wanting to remain at the Serie A club as his head seems to have been turned by Mourinho and United, seemingly wanting the move to a club who will participate in the UEFA Champions League next season, a competition Perisic has not played in for Inter. United obviously have other targets and with a week to go before the squad leave for the United States of America to get ready for their pre-season tour, time is seemingly running out for United and Mourinho, who may need to do business during the pre-season tour, which is not ideal. Ed Woodward did leave Australia on urgent transfer business back in 2013, something which came to nothing with United panic buying on deadline day.
