Jose Mourinho shelves plan to loan out Andreas Pereira this season

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly shelved his plan to loan Andreas Pereira again this coming season. The Sun have reported that Pereira, who return from a season-long loan spell with now relegated La Liga side Granada has played himself into the manager’s plans this season based on his performances in the clubs pre-season matches during the tour of the United States of America which saw United beat both MLS challengers LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, plus Manchester City, Real Madrid on penalties, seeing defeat to Barcelona in the final match of the American leg of the tour, those three matches in the International Champions Cup.

Several clubs had been reported to have an interest in Pereira this summer with a view of taking the 21-year-old for the season. Pereira had impressed during his loan clubs relegation threatened season, which happened before the last game, the Belgian-born Brazilian impressing his manager, also catching his eye during pre-season, which after Adnan Januzaj, who was tipped to make the grade at United was sold earlier in the summer, heading to La Liga side Real Sociedad, a former David Moyes managed club, Pereira seems to have taken a much different path, which has seen Mourinho change his plans for the new season, seemingly with Pereira playing a part with the club looking to challenge for the Premier League title, needing a big effort after last season.

Mourinho is said to have spoken to Pereira whilst the club were in America and wanted him to be involved in the first team next season, which is a great chance for the 21-year-old who will be looking to make his mark in the team, seemingly playing second-fiddle to Paul Pogba with the left midfield role, in a midfield three his best position, should Mourinho opt for a 4-3-3 formation at times. Pereira can also be used on each wing, also playing the number ten role, but he has competition there, should the formation played have that role within it, 4-3-3 doesn’t. Pereira could find himself on the fringes of the club, especially if a new midfielder arrives, but with rumours suggesting Marouane Fellaini could leave the club, it could see the Belgian in with a chance.

Pereira is keen to play first team football, he is 21 and needs to develop and that will not happen in the U23 league, which lacks competition. It is alright for younger players looking to raise their game, but once a player has had first team experience, the Premier League 2 will always be a step down. A loan spell could still be an option for the player, especially if he does not get the chance to occupy a place in the first team, but after his performances in all five pre-season matches, Mourinho would be silly not to give the player a chance. Last season for Granada, Pereira player 37 matches, scoring five goals in the relegation plagued season, which did not see the player give up, which is a good sign. The player will be itching for his chance and could be involved against Valerenga today.
