Juventus midfielder fires up transfer rumours

Manchester United have already been linked with a whole host of world class players this summer, many of whom were just rumours. One player that has constantly been linked to the Old Trafford club is Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal. Many United supporters feel the club could not tempt a player like Vidal, especially without European competition next season, but he signed for Juventus, who in the 2011/12 season were not involved in any European competition, so it shows that the player may not see that as the be all and end all of his career, although, with his calibre as a player, he should be playing in the elite European competitions.

Vidal is seen by many as the ultimate midfielder, the kind of player that United have missed since Roy Keane left the club and Owen Hargreaves was plagued by injuries. Michael Carrick has done a job in the midfield and last summers £27.5 million signing, Marouane Fellaini, just did not fit in, whether it be down to the rubbish tactics under David Moyes last season, or the expectation on his shoulders when moving to a bigger team, this is something we may see this coming season, if he is retained as a United player.

Vidal, currently in Brazil playing for Chile in the FIFA World Cup, where on Wednesday night they knock the defending World Champions, Spain out of the tournament with one match still to play, which was embarrassing for the Spanish side and will cause repercussions ahead of the qualification for Euro 2016, which starts this autumn. Vidal was one of the star players for Chile, and despite only playing 60 minutes in his first match, against Australia, playing 87 minutes against Spain gaining his fitness for his countries run in this summers competition. The Manchester Evening News reported the comments made by the Chilean midfielder when asked about his future at the Italian club. He said:

“Will I stay at Juventus? I do not know, I just think about the World Cup and the national team now.

“After the World Cup we will see what will be my future.”

Of course Vidal will be concentrating on Chile right now. The are hot contenders this summer and will go head to head with the Netherlands in order to settle who wins the group, with both teams making an appearance in the round of 16 of the tournament this time around. Either team will face Brazil, which is a match that many sides will want to avoid. Chile have the chance to continue their run this summer with the excellence of Alexis Sanchez and Vidal in the side, there is a big chance that the side could beat any team on their day.

Vidal is just that quality midfielder that every club would like. Louis van Gaal stated weeks ago that he wanted to buy Vidal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2011, but he went to Juventus instead. You have to think about the Italian giants and wonder why they would let their midfielder leave the club. The rise of Paul Pogba is one reason, the other being that they may need to sell to free up funds to strengthen this summer. Pogba is getting better all the time and a good World Cup under his belt and he will be even better, which is a big loss for United who saw him walk away from the club in the summer of 2012. Juventus are lucky with the midfield they currently have, and if United do have any chance in landing a player of Vidal’s quality, it needs to be done, but will it happen?
