LOAN WATCH: Lingard scores debut goal for Brighton

Jesse Lingard Press Conference

Manchester United’s loan stars once again represented their respective clubs on Tuesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship in a bid to further their efforts to gain promotion or avoid relegation this season. It was a good day for United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard, who scored his first goal for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Here are how I feel the players fared:

Tyler Blackett – Birmingham City

Tyler Blackett did not feature in the 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.

Next Match: Nottingham Forest – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 19th April 2014, KO 15:00

Federico Macheda – Birmingham City

Federico Macheda played the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 defeat away to Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening. There was not a lot the Italian striker could have done to put his side back into the match as the home side were 2-0 up inside 31 minutes. Birmingham scored on the 37th minute to put them back into the match. There were two red cards in the last ten minutes,  both for the home side and the Blues could still not take advantage. A last minute goal for Middlesbrough meant the match was over with Birmingham now only four points clear or the relegation zone.

Next Match: Nottingham Forest – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 19th April 2014, KO 15:00

Tom Thorpe – Birmingham City

Tom Thorpe also played the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, but him and his fellow defenders were caught off guard twice in the opening 31 minutes, which puts the Blues in a position whereby they need to win at least three of their remaining five fixtures to remain in the Championship next season. Another defeat could see them consumed in the relegation frenzy, which they do not want to get involved in.

Next Match: Nottingham Forest – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 19th April 2014, KO 15:00

Michael Keane – Blackburn Rovers

Michael Keane played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 victory over promotion chasing Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening. It was the first time Keane would face his twin, Will (currently on loan at QPR), but the latter was unable to find the back of the net in a lack lustre performance for Harry Redknapp’s side. Michael Keane again played in the right-back role and did a good job there also, which could be a position where he could be utilised by David Moyes next season. Keane had a headed attempt on the 42nd minute saved, he has scored the majority of his goals in a similar way both for United’s U21’s, England U21’s and his debut goal for Blackburn in the past. Blackburn are currently four points away from a play off position, which could be out of reach but a few commanding performances by the side could change that.

Next Match: Sheffield Wednesday – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 15:07

Jesse Lingard – Brighton & Hove Albion

Jesse Lingard played a great match for Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2-0 victory over the already promoted Leicester City on Tuesday evening. Recently Lingard had said in an interview that he could feel his first goal for the side coming, and it did tonight. Brighton took the lead on the 17th minute through Stephen Ward and on the 24th minute it was Lingard’s turn for his debut goal for the club. Leonardo Ulloa scored a brace on the 64th and 80th minute with Leicester scoring a consolation a minute from time. It was a good night for Lingard, a performance he will build on as Brighton bid to better their league position and currently lie just two points below Reading, who are in the final play off place, so the season could end well for Lingard, if they keep winning of course.

Next Match: Charlton Athletic – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 15:07

Davide Petrucci – Charlton Athletic

Davide Petrucci did not feature in the 3-2 victory over Yeovil Town on Tuesday evening.

Next Match: Brighton & Hove Albion – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 15:07

Sam Johnstone – Doncaster Rovers

Sam Johnstone played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening. The United shot stopper conceded twice inside the first 15 minutes, which was enough for the visiting side to take all three points away from the South Yorkshire club. Doncaster Rovers did score three minutes after the second Bolton goal, but it was just not enough. Johnstone made a fair few saves in the match, which kept the visiting side from humiliating the Rovers, who are in the same position as Birmingham City, just four points from the relegation zone.

Next Match: Ipswich Town – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 15:07

Will Keane – Queens Park Rangers

Will Keane started in the 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening and lasted 69 minuted before being replaced by Charlie Austin. Keane faced his twin, Michael for the first time this season, but did not put much pressure on the defender. Keane had a shot on target in the 67th minute, but he hit the post, which was unfortunate, this was his last touch of the match. Queens Park Rangers are currently holding onto a play off place, so there is a chance they could return to the Barclays Premier League next season, but there is a fair way to go just yet and lots can change.

Next Match: Nottingham Forest – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 12:22

Nick Powell – Wigan Athletic

Nick Powell was a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Millwall. The United attacking midfielder and Wigan’s top scorer this season replaces James McClean on the 63rd minute of the match. It did not take him long to get into the match with a shot on the 64th and 65th minute, neither caused the away team much bother. Wigan are currently four points clear of sixth placed Reading, but could have done with a win this evening to try and secure a play off place. A tough FA Cup match this weekend against Arsenal at Wembley is fully on their minds now, and with them knocking out Manchester City in the last round, the holders could well make another final is they sweep aside the North London club this weekend.

Next Match: Arsenal – Budweiser FA Cup – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 17:07

Tom Lawrence – Yeovil Town

Tom Lawrence played the full 90 minutes in the 3-2 defeat to Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening. The Welsh striker scored his first goal for the club at the weekend and personally I was hoping it would spur him on to find the back of the net again this evening, but it was not to be for the United youngster. Yeovil were chasing the game throughout the match and found it hard to get through the home side. Lawrence had a shot inside the first two minutes of the match, but it was over the crossbar, which could have been a game changer for the visiting side. Yeovil are currently at the bottom in the Championship and have a lot of work to do if they want to remain in the same league next season.

Next Match: AFC Bournemouth – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 12th April 2014, KO 15:07
