LOAN WATCH: Macheda, Bebe, Keane & Powell score

Manchester United’s loan stars were again in action for their respective teams at the weekend. There were a few more players heading out on loan with the emergency loan deadline passing last Thursday. Tom Thorpe returned to Birmingham City after making a full recovery from his injury, Davide Petrucci was loaned out to Charlton Athletic, Liam Grimshaw was loaned to Morecambe and Jack Barmby extended his loan at Hartlepool United until the end of the season.

Here is how the players fared at the weekend:

Wilfried Zaha – Cardiff City

Wilfried Zaha started the 3-3 draw against West Bromwich Albion on the bench, but he replaced former United team-mate on the 36th minute of the match. Zaha had a big influence in the game. It was 2-2 with 17 minutes to go and a goal by the Baggies deep into injury time could have sealed the victory, but Zaha set up Mats Møller Dæhli for the equaliser, meaning Cardiff shared the spoils with the Baggies and now sit in eighteenth place in the league, but Sunderland (who are in seventeenth place) still have two games in hand, so the South Wales side are not safe, yet.

Next Match: Crystal Palace – Barclays Premier League – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Tyler Blackett – Birmingham City

Tyler Blackett started and played the full 90 minutes in the 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth. Birmingham City are not doing all that well in the second half of the season with them currently sitting five points clear of a relegation position, which does not bode all that well for them. Blackett had a good game, but he was not the United player to impress.

Next Match: Doncaster Rovers – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Federico Macheda – Birmingham City

Federico Macheda started the 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth on the bench once again. He replaced Andrew Shinnie on the 34th minute of the match when the home side were 3-0 down. A fourth goal early in the second half was devastating for the Blues. Just five minutes after Bournemouth went 4-0 up, Macheda slotted a left footed shot past the Bournemouth keeper. The Italian striker completed his brace forth 17 minutes remaining, but it was not enough for the home side to get anything from the match. Macheda does not deserve to be coming off the bench, seeing as he has scored a fair few goals for his loan club in the second half of the season.

Next Match: Doncaster Rovers – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Tom Thorpe – Birmingham City

Tom Thorpe did not feature for Birmingham City in their 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth this weekend.

Next Match: Doncaster Rovers – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Michael Keane – Blackburn Rovers

Michael Keane started for Blackburn Rovers in their 2-2 draw away to Millwall. Keane scored his first goal for his loan club, another header eight minutes after Grant Hanley was sent off and the home side scored the resulting penalty. Keane put in a commanding performance but was unable to stop Millwall taking the lead again as this time he gave away a penalty. Former United striker Joshua King scored the equaliser for Blackburn in the dying minutes of the match to earn a point, but with them currently in twelfth place, eight points short of a play off place, it is not looking good for them to regain their Barclays Premier League status next season.

Next Match: Brighton & Hove Albion – Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 1st April 2014, KO 19:45

Jesse Lingard – Brighton & Hove Albion

Jesse Lingard played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough. Brighton were 1-0 down in the 76th minute and Lingard had a shot on goal. He could have scored the equaliser, but the goalkeeper parried the ball. Brighton were given a penalty, but missed and the visitors scored a second goal. Brighton are currently ninth in the league and four points away from a play off place. They have a game in hand over sixth placed Reading, so it is not over for them yet.

Next Match: Blackburn Rovers – Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 1st April 2014, KO 19:45

Davide Petrucci – Charlton Athletic

David Petrucci was a substitute in the 3-0 defeat away to Derby County this weekend. He replaced Johnnie Jackson with eight minutes of normal time remaining. The Italian midfielder has a shot on goal within three minutes of coming on, but it was wide of the target. Charlton were unable to get back into the match and are in dire straits with only goal difference stopping them for being ins a relegation place.

Next Match: Leeds United – Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 1st April 2014, KO 19:45

Sam Johnstone – Doncaster Rovers

Sam Johnstone played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Yorkshire rivals Leeds United this weekend. Johnstone was unable to keep a clean sheet after Ross McCormack put the home side back into the match with 28 minutes remaining. The United goalkeeper was shown a yellow card for unsporting behaviour on the 74th minute. The Rovers are unlikely to press for a play off position this season, but have pulled away from the relegation zone, sitting eight points above.

Next Match: Birmingham City – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Will Keane – Queens Park Rangers

Will Keane played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool this weekend. Keane won a free kick on the 34th minute after he was fouled by Chris Basham. It was good to see Keane being afforded playing time by manager Harry Redknapp, which will no doubt give him some great experiences and boost his confidence for the future of his career after his spell on the sidelines last season due to injury.

Next Match: Bournemouth – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Nick Powell – Wigan Athletic

Nick Powell was a substitute in the 1-1 draw away to Bolton Wanderers this weekend. The United attacking midfielder scored the equalising goal for his side with two minutes of normal time remaining. It was his twelfth goal of the season for the Latics, showing that he was able to make his loan spell a success ahead of next season. Reports suggest David Moyes is willing to sell Powell, but he should be given a chance in the United first team next season as it could turn into a mistake.

Next Match: Leicester City – Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 1st April 2014, KO 19:45

Tom Lawrence – Yeovil Town

Tom Lawrence played 84 minutes for Yeovil Town in the 4-1 defeat at home to Barnsley at the weekend. Lawrence had a shot on goal in the 66th minute, but it was off target. There was a Lawrence on the scoresheet, but it was Barnsley’s Liam Lawrence. The Welsh striker is still looking for his first Championship goal, hopefully it will come for him. He has made the step up from League One to the Championship this season, which is looking good as he is a regular for Yeovil, so it is not looking all that bad for him.

Next Match: Blackpool – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Sam Byrne – Carlisle United

Sam Byrne was a second half substitute for Carlisle United this weekend in their 0-0 draw away to Tranmere Rovers. He replaced Lewis Guy on the 65th minute of the match., but was unable to get anything from the match. Carlisle currently occupy a relegation position and need to push for results or they will return to League Two next season.

Next Match: Swindon Town – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Jack Barmby – Hartlepool United

Jack Barmby started for Hartlepool United this weekend fresh from extending his loan spell for the remainder of the season. Barmby had a shot on the 14th minute, which was caught, another in the 22nd minute was parried away from the goal. He was shown a yellow card for a foul on the 37th minute of the match. The United winger had another shot before half time, but it was saved once again. He is clearly having his fair share of chances and developing whilst on loan in the North East.

Next Match: Portsmouth – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Liam Grimshaw – Morecambe

Liam Grimshaw was not involved in the 1-0 defeat to Bristol Rovers this weekend.

Next Match: Mansfield Town – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Jonny Sutherland – Stafford Rangers

Jonny Sutherland was not involved in the 2-2 draw away to Buxton this weekend.

Next Match: Kings Lynn Town – Evo-Stik League – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Marnick Vermijl – NEC Nijmegen

Marnick Vermijl played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Heracles Almelo this weekend. The United defender whose future at the club is currently in doubt due to the comments of his agent recently, is developing at the Eredivisie club and could have challenged Rafael da Silva for the right-back position next season, but that is in doubt right now. Vermijl has the talent to be a solid defender and it is a shame to see him want to leave the club just because new manager David Moyes let him go out on loan. Playing for the U21’s last season was not enough to earn him a first team position this season, but Vermijl seem to think it was, so he’s just another petulant youth player to get ahead of himself in my opinion.

Next Match: Cambuur – Eredivisie – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 18:45

Bebe – Paços de Ferreira

Bebe was a player notice again this weekend after he scored another sublime goal in the 1-1 draw away to Belenenses on Friday evening. The Portuguese winger is making a name for himself with some United supporters even suggesting he has a future at the Old Trafford club next season. I would not go that far as he has let us dow over the past four years, but he will earn himself a good career over in Portugal with SC Braga currently looking into purchasing the player in the summer.

Next Match: Sporting CP – Primeira Liga – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 20:15

Anderson – Fiorentina

Anderson did not feature in the 0-0 draw  away to Sampdoria this weekend.

Next Match: Udinese – Serie A – Sunday 6th April 2014, KO 14:00

Angelo Henriquez – Real Zaragoza

Angelo Henriquez did not feature in the 2-2 draw away to Alaves through injury.

Next Match: Eibar – Liga Adelante – Sunday 6th April 2014, KO 11:00
