Loan Watch: Nani & Henriquez both score; Amos continues to impress

Angelo Henriquez

Manchester United’s loan stars were back in action again this weekend. Nani and Angelo Henriquez both scored for their clubs and Ben Amos impressed for Bolton Wanderers. Ben Pearson, Saidy Janko, Vanja Milinković-Savić, Will Keane and Javier Hernandez missed out for their loan clubs either through injury, not being involved in the match day squads and not being utilised from the bench. Jesse Lingard’s Derby County lost their fourth match in six (with two draws) and are now in danger of dropping out of the play-off places in the Sky Bet Championship.

Here is how I feel the loan stars fared weekend:

Tom Cleverley – Aston Villa

Tom Cleverley played 25 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to Swansea City in the Barclays Premier League. Cleverley didn’t do a lot in the game due to being substituted due to a groin injury he picked up during the first 25 minutes of the match he was subbed for Carlos Sanchez.

Next Match: Manchester United – Barclays Premier League – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 15:00

Ben Amos – Bolton Wanderers

Ben Amos played 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship. Amos had a pretty good game saving his team on numerous occasions. He made one brilliant saving with two minutes to go with a right footed shot by Sheyi Ojo which was tipped round the post. But the goal wasn’t his fault it was scramble in the six yard box and a Wigan player tapped it home to make it 1-1.

Next Match: Blackpool – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 15:00

Saidy Janko – Bolton Wanderers

Saidy Janko was not involved in the 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship due to injury.

Next Match: Blackpool – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 15:00

Jesse Lingard – Derby County

Jesse Lingard played 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship on Friday evening. The Manchester United attacking midfielder had four shots on target, but former United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak saved all of them, which must have been frustrating for the youngster. In total, the Rams had 19 shots on goal, eight were on target and saved, one his the crossbar, four were blocked and six were off target – compared to Wolves’ ten shots; two were scored, one hit the crossbar, six off target and two were saved, Derby were unlucky. Lingard had 93% pass success and created two chances for his team-mates. Big match against Watford after the international break beckons for Derby and that is a must win match with them holding onto fifth place on goal difference, a point ahead of seventh placed Brentford.

Next Match: Watford – Sky Bet Championship – Friday 3rd April 2015; KO 19:45

Will Keane – Sheffield Wednesday

Will Keane was not involved in the 3-2 win over Rotherham United in the Sky Bet Championship.

Next Match: Huddersfield Town – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 15:00

Ben Pearson – Barnsley

Ben Pearson was not involved in the 1-1 draw with Preston North End in the Sky Bet League One match.

Next Match: Bristol City – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 28th March 2015; KO 15:00

Sam Johnstone – Preston North End

Sam Johnstone played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley in the Sky Bet League One. Johnstone showed his class once again in goal for Preston with some brilliant saves to keep Preston fighting for Promotion from League One. The young United keeper made the key save of the match right at the end which kept the game at 1-1.

Next Match: Fleetwood Town – Sky Bet League One – Sunday 29th March 2015; KO 14:15

Javier Hernandez – Real Madrid

Javier Hernandez was an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the La Liga on Sunday evening. The Mexican seems to be having a worse season that the last, where he got more playing time under David Moyes at Manchester United, but may not have got many minutes under Louis van Gaal this season. He looks like he’s lost his position at both clubs with the summer maybe solving some problems for the fallen Mexican.

Next Match: Granada – La Liga – Sunday 5th April 2015; KO 11:00

Guillermo Varela – Real Madrid II

Guillermo Varela played 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano II on Sunday morning, putting the Spanish Giants youth side five points adrift of the top of the league. Varela had a good season with United in their U21 side last season and was loaned to the Madrid side’s second string this season, where he has done well at times. After ten minutes, the score was level at 1-1 but a winning goal four minutes from time broke Real Madrid’s second strings hearts, the same as Barcelona did with the first team on Sunday evening.

Next Match: Las Palmas II – Segunda B – Saturday 28th March 2015; KO 11:00

Nani – Sporting Lisbon

Nani played 90 minutes in the 4-1 victory over Vitória Guimarães in the Primeira Liga. Nani had an average game at best didn’t really cause a lot of problems for the opposition side. He scored from spot to make it 4-0 after he was taken down from behind in the box. Overall he was poor throughout the game he didn’t create a lot for his side and just gave up when he lost the ball.

Next Match: Paços de Ferreira – Primeira Liga – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 20:15

Angelo Henriquez – Dinamo Zagreb

Angelo Henriquez played 90 minutes in the 4-1 victory over Istra 1961 in the 1.HNL. Henriquez played well in the dominant win and he also managed to bag another goal with a strike inside the box which made it 2-0 after 32 minutes. The Chilean has shown in some matches what he’s capable of doing, but he’s not shown it as much as he could. He’s played 17 times for Dynamo Zagreb and managed to bag 12 goals in competitive matches this season.

Next Match: Rijeka – 1.HNL – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 16:00

Vanja Milinković-Savić – FK Vojvodina

Vanja Milinković-Savić was not involved in the 1-1 draw with Radnički Niš in the Super Liga.

Next Match: Spartak Subotica – Super Liga – Saturday 4th April 2015; KO 13:30
