Manchester United have been linked with many players this summer with Mexican winger Hirving Lozano one of them. Reports over the past few weeks have suggested that Lozano is Old Trafford bound after the Olympics, where Mexico will defend their gold medal won in London in 2012. Lozano is a prospect for the future and could be a very good fit in Jose Mourinho’s team, should the earlier reports of the club being interested in him. Year after year we see players being linked with Manchester United, without any truth and based on the comments Pachuca boss Diego Alonso has made, it seems that currently there is nothing on the table from Manchester United, with Lozano being told to be focussed on Pachuca. Speaking to Univision and reported by The Sun, Alonso said:
“I am very calm because I know he [Lozano] has spoken with club officials. He spoke with Jesus Martinez and they explained to him the reality of the situation.
“And the reality is that today he must be fully focused on Pachuca because there is absolutely nothing [with Manchester United].
“Logically there is going to be interest [from big clubs] but there have been no offers. If we get an offer he will be the first to know it, but we plan for El Chucky to be with us throughout the rest of the season.”
Manchester United are in a period of uncertainty at the moment in time with a new manager taking the helm, the third since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013. The president of Pachuca has commented on Lozano and Manchester United and the player’s father-in-law suggested the deal was done with the player making the move after the Olympics towards the end of August. This could well be the case with Pachuca’s coach not wanting to let the player get affected by a big impending move. Or it could just be another matter of a club speaking to the media, name dropping a big European club in hope the floods of offers could be made for the player in the hours, days and weeks after the comment had been made. I am sure we have not heard the end of Hirving Lozano to Manchester United.
Tommy Moller Nielsen, a new scout employed by the Old Trafford club will be heading to the Olympics this summer to scout new talent for his new employers. Previously a coach for Rangers, who also spent time at Aberdeen will now become a scout for Scandinavia under the command of Jose Mourinho. Nielsen will most likely scrutinise Lozano during the Olympics, which could see talk of him arriving at Old Trafford this summer. The 54-year-old speaking of his new role with Manchester United, said:
“I am a coach and wanted to coach again, but it is a very exciting and interesting job, I need to start.
“I get to work with football at the highest level and I am very pleased.”
Nielsen has also worked for Everton, West Bromwich Albion, Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest – he will look for talented youngsters within Scandinavia, first of all watching players at the Olympics this summer in Rio de Janeiro. Lozano may be a player that Nielsen takes a keen interest in, along with many other talented players from around the world. I am sure Lozano will still continue to be linked to Manchester United this summer, as clearly for the president of Pachuca and the player’s father-in-law to make a suggestion that he is off to the Theatre of Dreams, there must be some interest there for those things to be said, or they have been said to create interest from other clubs. United scout Jim Lawlor found Javier Hernandez back in 2010, and seemed to unearth Lozano too, so this could be the start of another talented Mexican arriving at the Old Trafford club.
