Manchester United boosted by Spurs withdrawal in Bruno Fernandes chase

Manchester United has reportedly been handed a boost in the pursuit of Bruno Fernandes this summer. The Portuguese international who recently helped his country win the UEFA Nations League has been chased by Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, as well as United this summer.

In recent weeks, it was just United and Spurs who have seemingly been interested in the 24-year-old. It is suggested that Spurs have now ruled out a move for the midfielder this summer. There have been reports of an €80 million offer from United, with various reports suggesting the amount which could be paid up front for the player.

The Daily Mail has reported the news that Spurs have withdrawn their interest in the player this summer, which if true, could suggest that United could be the only team with solid interested in the player this summer. It is also stated in the report that both Liverpool and Leicester City have rejected the player with Manchester City distancing themselves from the speculation of wanting the player.

Fernandes played 58 matches for Sporting last season, scoring 32 goals and assisting a further 18 for his club. That sort of ability in the midfield would be great for United, especially if he was able to bring that sort of form to the Premier League. It is, however, a much tougher league but even scoring ten goals and getting a similar number of assists would be a bonus for this United side.

United will be looking to overturn their poor season, adding more positivity to the club and starting a rebuild, which could take a number of years to perfect. There are many players at this club who do not deserve to be in the position they are in and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to ensure they are removed from the club sooner or later.

If players have not excelled themselves after being at the club for eight or nine years, it is not something that is going to change. If United bring in players like Fernandes this summer, keeping the problem players, it is just going to spread. A rotten apple with eventually spread to the rest of the apples if it is left in the same basket. Time will tell if United are going to sign Fernandes, they need someone like him in the squad.
