Manchester United can have Ivan Perisic if they make serious bid – Luciano Spalletti

Manchester United have been told that they can sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic this summer if they make a serious bid for the Croatian international. The Sun has reported the comments made by Inter manager Luciano Spalletti suggesting that he will not stand in the way of the player should he want to leave for the Old Trafford club but United will have to pay the going rate for him. Inter Milan do not want to sell Perisic and they do not really need to sell him and all said and done, if United want the player, they will need to stump up the cash for him and look fools for posturing over a move for nearly two months now, seemingly failing to land the Croatian winger who Jose Mourinho highly rates and wants to add to his squad ahead of the new season.

Rumours have suggested that Inter asked for Anthony Martial as part of the deal, but the same story seems to have reared its head for other rumours, specifically the Marco Verratti link to United after he switched his agent to Mino Raiola, which to the media suggested he was Old Trafford bound. There was a story earlier on Sunday suggesting that United have switched attention to another player because Paris Saint-Germain wanted Martial and cash to allow Verratti to leave the French club this summer. There have been other stories related to Martial and I think the media are stirring to get United supporters back’s up and moan, which proliferated the rumour and ensures more people read the articles, which brings in revenue during the ‘silly season’.

It is reported that Inter Milan will demand £48 million for Perisic this summer, which for a 28-year-old is a lot of money, but looking from Inter’s point of view, they have no reason to sell so do not need to, so it is only fair they charge a premium for the player as they will need to replace him, which may or may not be easy for them. United have bag loads of cash and despite the supporters being part of the revenue stream it does not mean they have a say in what amount is paid for who. I don’t care about the money spent in all honesty, it is much better being used to buy players than sitting in the clubs cash reserves with the Glazers tempted to cash in on something or other and that money being used for something else unrelated to the club.

United seemed to be reluctant to pay more than £40 million for Perisic, but to land their target, a target they have been looking at since at least March, it would be pretty silly to walk away from the player, someone who Mourinho wanted to add to his squad this coming season, which could even see Martial turned back into a striker, a position he has played well in during the first pre-season match against LA Galaxy, which could well see United play a two striker formation during the upcoming season having Perisic, his experience, and ability on the left flank next season. United manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that a third signing will be, pushed in the coming days, weeks or even a month or so, he did want four players this summer, landing two already.

Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke in a recent press conference about Perisic, saying: “He is a fantastic player and if his future is totally up to me, I will definitely keep him. However, if an offer comes and the club are satisfied with the money, which will be used to invest in and strengthen the team, he could leave.” United have so far signed central defender Victor Lindelof for £30.7 million from Benfica and Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75 million plus add-ons, which could take the final fee to £90 million. Mourinho has had a lot to say recently about the transfer market, which could have been a veiled message to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who has so far not appeared on the club pre-season tour of the United States of America.
