Manchester United edging closer to signing Croatian winger…

Manchester United are edging closer on a transfer for Ivan Perisic according to The Mirror. The report suggests that the fee would be £44 million, which is considerably less than the reported fee Inter Milan have demanded over recent weeks, which is something to remain skeptical of. A few days ago it was reported that Perisic left Inter’s training camp to return to Croatia to see his dentist, which was one of those ‘is he heading to Old Trafford moments’ based on the absurdity of the excuse, which was in fact correct. Inter will fly to China on Tuesday as part of their pre-season tour in which they will participate in the International Champions Cup and United will want to secure Perisic before he disappears with his club.

United are reported to have offered the Italian side £39.5 million for the player plus an additional £4.5 million in add-ons, equating to a £44 million fee for the player, which may still be short of Inter’s valuation of their player. Inter are reluctant to lose Perisic, their best player, and who could blame them, especially in a time where rivals AC Milan are strengthening. The report suggests that United hope Inter will find the offer too good to turn down, accepting it so the player can remain in Italy before departing for Manchester, then possibly onto Los Angeles where he could meet up with his new teammates ahead of the Manchester derby with Manchester City, or possibly before the clashes with Real Madrid and Barcelona, so that the player gets to experience some matches.

Reports surfaced on Monday which suggested the Nerazzurri are looking at Lazio star Keita Balde as a replacement for Perisic, and if true it should see the club allow the player to leave for United, which is said to be something the Croatian wants. United manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the player and had travelled to Croatia in March to watch the player during the international break, which is where the rumours first surfaced. Over the past few days, there had been reports that Inter had agreed on a fee with United for Perisic but there was also a fake rumours attributed to ESPN, albeit from a fake account on social media, which is where that speculation could come from. It may be true at this point in time, we shall soon see.

Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti recently appeared to suggest there was something going on with the player after he gave a quote, which begged more questions than it actually answered. Spalletti and Perisic were said to be meeting some weeks ago to see if the player wanted to remain in Italy or move to pastured new. Nothing has been suggested as to what happened in that meeting, but if this develops into the player actually heading to Manchester, it will be obvious what was said in that meeting. Spalletti, speaking to SportItalia, said:

“Perisic? You [journalists] know everything, it’s all out in the open.”

Make of that what you will. There is something going on with United’s transfer business. Mourinho is not happy with just Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku this summer with more players targeted. Nemanja Matic is thought to still be a target for Mourinho, but there are reports with the player seemingly on the move to Juventus. Eric Dier seems to be a target too with United reportedly tempting Tottenham Hotspur with a £60 million take it or leave it offer, which may or may not happen. There is also talk of Fabinho, albeit from the club’s supporters who seem to be obsessed with the Brazilian midfielder, but nothing to suggest United are making a move for the talented AS Monaco player.
