With the club recently completing a deal for former Spartak Moscow and Sporting Lisbon man Marcos Rojo, it could be that the Red Devils are looking to jump straight back into the near closing transfer market in pursuit of bolstering their injury ridden squad, and it appears the club are not only looking at players to make an instant impact in todays current struggling team but are also perhaps looking to the future with 21-year-old Cruzeiro defensive-midfielder Lucas Silva being credited as the latest man to be wanted by Louis Van Gaal, that’s according to TalkSPORT and Brazil’s Superesportes.
Lucas Silva Borges as he is known in full is a recent winner of the U21’s World Toulon Tournament played earlier this june, where the defensive-midfielder helped his fellow countrymen to a 5-2 win against France in the final. It was supposedly in France where the young Brazilian drew most of his attention from various european clubs thanks to his apparent world-class passing ability, according to TalkSPORT’s South American correspond Tim Vickery who praised the young Cruzeiro starter by stating:
“He’s probably the best passing midfielder that Brazilian football has produced in the last few years and a real one to watch.”
However with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham among the suitors keen on adding Lucas to their ranks, Vickery believes the youngster could potentially struggle to make the massive jump to Premier league football from the Brasileirão just yet due to the completely different style of play and mentality in this country compared to his native Brazil. However he feels the Cruzeiro man who plays alongside ex Arsenal powerhouse Julio Baptista, that he is already playing at a high enough level to warrant a place in the senior Brazil side.
“He hasn’t been called up by the Brazil senior squad, though I think he probably should be. Instead he’s with the Under-20 squad that will play a couple of games. I think he’s very promising indeed.
“Although the way the game is played in Brazil, the pitch is so big and the defensive lines play so deep, means there’s so much space that it would be, at this stage of his career, a huge step up for him to come straight into somewhere like United or Chelsea.”
Back home in Lucas Silva’s native Belo Horizonte, the city in which Cruzeiro reside themselves, the 21-year-old is known as the Cruzeirense Wheel due to the fact the clubs nickname is The Cruise and the young Goiás born midfielder is essentially the teams steering wheel in regards to driving the teams attacking play forward, the nickname in itself speaks volumes of the player who is so highly regarded in his home country at his reasonably young age of 21. Lucas has been a pivotal player in Cruzeiro’s last couple of seasons at the Estádio Mineirão sitting just in front of the central defenders as a dynamic anchorman who is able to make a tackle and spread the play in any direction with his impressive long sighted passing accuracy.
Speaking with Brazil’s Superesportes, Lucas’ agent Luiz Rocha mentioned that he was recently approached by supposed representatives of Manchester United and Inter Milan, however he stated that no official attempt had been made to sign the midfielder as of yet.
“There are not many details, I confirm that I was approached by people linked to Manchester United and Inter Milan.
“There is no official proposal. We are waiting.”
Lucas started in Cruzeiro’s 11 on 25 occasions in 2014 with 27 appearances in total, also adding with a couple of goals, it is arguably noticeable already that the midfielder is one of his teams most important and dependable players given his positions is such an integral part of the clubs play, not to mention that the club is also the current Brasileirão champions, so it is clear that the club won’t necessarily be letting the young rising star go without a fight.
