Manchester United fans deserve Premier League title and trophies, says Spaniard

Manchester United, this summer, were criticised by a lot of their supporters for not making signings early enough, only to be proven wrong by Ed Woodward. The way United have gone about there transfers so far has been impressive and one thing that evidently stands out is, Intent. United might have signed only four new players as opposed to Liverpool, for instance, who started splurging the money as soon as the window opened. But the quality of these four signings has been way above any of the other signings made in this window. Also, the balance of the team, as mentioned by Louis van Gaal have been taken in to consideration too. All of this, points to only one thing; the greater goal for this season at United is clear to everyone and that’s challenging for the league and major trophies.

Juan Mata is the latest endorser of this opinion. being very candid about the target at United this season, while talking to Sky Sports News HQ. He expressed his views about winning the league as a gratitude towards the fans and their support. Fans have been one common point of admiration for all the new recruits that came in last season, including Van Gaal. Mata was quoted saying as

“We all believe that we need to do one more step forward and try to fight for the title because that’s what this club means – fighting for trophies. It’s the pressure this club always has. We know that we have to be fighting for titles. We feel this is what the fans deserve because it’s amazing how they support us. We want to do it for them, and hopefully this season we’ll do it.”

Obviously, with new signings coming in, the competition for each position goes up a notch and the Spaniard recognizes this but took it in his stride positively. While responding to these questions he was quick to assert:

“When you play for a top team, you always know you have to be at your best level to play. There is a lot of competition for the spots in the first XI, but I believe in myself. If you play for a team like Manchester United, you’re always going to have competition.”

While a player looking for new avenues, when threatened by new signings is common in Football, the refreshing attitude of the attacking midfielder towards this situation is pleasant to see. However, the new signings did not come to him as a surprise, as he was told, that there will be many to follow him by the United officials. The Red Devils are in the middle of a rebuilding phase and hence the overhaul of the team. When David Moyes, brought Juan Mata over from Chelsea in the Winter transfer window, he was informed by the officials about the overhaul that was coming. Juan Mata while talking to BBC Sports said:

“I knew the club was going to have these kind of signings. We know there is still a lot of work to do. It’s not just about bringing good players in. It’s about playing well and winning trophies.”

With the midfield sorted, Van Gaal will still look to strengthen two more positions, which was also supported by the former Chelsea’s Player’s player of the year. He said

“Obviously I think they are looking in the market to bring a few more in. Let’s see what happens.”

Most of the supporters shall already be content with the team that they have currently, in case Van Gaal was to not sign anyone else. The shift of the belief, which was shattered at the end of Moyes’s season, is pretty evident but has taken its time. The fans have been patient with the squad and its manager, but the manager himself knows that they will be expected to win major trophy, if not more than one, this season. And with the current euphoria and credence in the team’s ability, this United squad, if played to their potential, are surely on their way to this goal.
