Reports in Portugal suggest that Manchester United has offered €80 million deal to sign Bruno Fernandes

According to Jornal de Notícias, translated by Sport Witness, Manchester United has made their first bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes. It is suggested that the Old Trafford club has but a total of €80 million for the player; €55 million up front with €25 million on bonuses.

This has blown Manchester City’s offer out of the water, which was said to be €50 million, also loaning some players to the Portuguese club as part of the deal. City’s offer has already been rejected but the newspaper has stated that United’s offer was ‘very seducing’.

Sporting will be looking to make as much money as they can from the sale of Fernandes and the player is not worried about his next club, stating that he will be happy playing for any Premier League club, something he stated with RTP. The paper has even suggested that Chelsea might be interested in the player.

However, they are currently subject to a transfer ban imposed by FIFA and they will only be able to bring in additional players this summer if they are allowed to appeal, which could see the ban lifted or suspended for this summer, maybe coming into effect in January 2020 or next summer. The ban was not stated in the report though. Strange.

No other newspaper in Portugal has reported this apparent bid by United, which reportedly blows City’s offer out of the water. It has been reported that City has made an offer and United has interest in the player. Last week, it was suggested that United could seal the deal ‘in a week’, which does not seem to have happened, maybe it won’t.

Fernandes would be a good signing for both City and United. United could do with a player of his calibre more than City need it. The player would probably get more playing time at United but they need to be in for the player in order for him to sign. There are lots of rumours suggesting that but so far no action. However, the international transfer window opens a week today, so maybe we will start seeing some action?
