Manchester United offer for Ivan Perisic not being taken into consideration

Manchester United have been linked to Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic for a number of months now with deals seemingly being close, yet nothing seems to develop. For weeks now there has been much posturing between the Old Trafford and San Siro club’s but United just do not seem to be getting anywhere, which could suggest United are no longer interested in the player, moving onto another target, or that United are licking their wounds in order to try and get to a point whereby a deal could be struck for the player, giving him some time in the club’s pre-season schedule ahead of the new Premier League season – which does not look all that likely based on the news coming out of Inter Milan on Thursday.

Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has insisted that Perisic is not going to leave the club this summer, which could be the intention of the club, retaining their star player, or a way of trying to milk United for all they will stump up for the Croatian winger, which could well be the case. United manager Jose Mourinho is keen to add Perisic to his list of summer additions, but it would seem the Nerazzurri just will not take the Old Trafford club’s bids for the player into consideration. United, if this is the stance from the Serie A club, will need to look at secondary targets for the wing position this summer which may bring a much better result for Mourinho and United. Speaking to Sky Italia, Ausilio said:

“We haven’t taken anything they [Manchester United] have offered.”

It was suggested that Perisic was training on his own this summer in an attempt to force through a move to the Old Trafford club but this too has been dismissed by Ausilio. It was reported earlier in the week that United had a £39 million rejected with the Italian club seeking £48 million for the player. However, it seems that the fallen Italian giants are outright refusing to sell Perisic this summer, opting to keep him as part of the club’s redevelopment in a bid to challenge the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli to return to their former position as one of the best clubs in Europe. Perisic was one of Inter’s best players last season and was signed in 2015 from VfL Wolfsburg for around £15 million. You cannot blame them for wanting to keep their best player.

United now need to get over this setback in their summer signing spree in order to strengthen areas of the squad ahead of the coming season, where Mourinho will be expected to assemble a squad capable of fighting on all four fronts, especially in the UEFA Champions League and even launch a Premier League title challenge for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson graced the touchline. Mourinho seems to have a lot of work to do, but with a comprehensive list of targets in various positions, United will have other options – that is if they are not already doing that, allowing the media pursuit of Perisic to continue, signing a different player instead, which is what happened with Alvaro Morata, United signing former Evertonian Romelu Lukaku instead.
