Manchester United reportedly offer Adrien Rabiot £9 million a year; player taking to Everton and waiting for Liverpool – reports

Manchester United has reportedly offered Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot a £9 million a year deal to move to the Old Trafford club this summer. The reports also state that the player will be offered a £4.5 million signing bonus to leave the French champions for United as a free agent this summer.

Everton is also credited with an interest in the player with speculation suggesting that the player’s entourage is speaking to both clubs ahead of a move away from Paris this summer. No response to United alleged offer has been made by Rabiot or his entourage and there are even suggestions that the player, who idolises Steven Gerrard, could be waiting to see if Liverpool make a move to sign him.

Rabiot would be a good signing for United, especially after Ander Herrera has left the club. He would cost nothing in terms of a transfer fee and could do a job in the centre of midfield, an area United need strengthening in. However, in a period of rebuilding, it must be said that United will need to only recruit players who want to represent the club. If Rabiot is not convinced with both United and Everton, holding out for Liverpool, he might not be the player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs.

Obviously, the reports in the media might not be true. There seem to be varied reports wherever you look. Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are both said to be interested in the player also, both teams able to offer Rabiot UEFA Champions League football next season, whereas United will play in the UEFA Europa League. Everton will not play in a European competition.

Rabiot, 24, was a target for both Barcelona and Spurs in January but the wages he wanted was too much for both teams, so keeping that in mind, it might rule Spurs out of a move this summer, especially if they cannot or will not offer the same wage structure as United, who could also tempt him with higher image rights and a marketing package, which other clubs may not be able to offer.

The international transfer window for Premier League club opens in just over a weeks time but a prospective transfer for Rabiot would not happen until the 1 July at the earliest, just like Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s move to United. As United will need to get their transfer business sorted out pretty quickly, they should give Rabiot and his entourage a deadline to decide whether he wants to sign for United or not. That deadline should cease before the international transfer window opens for Premier League clubs on the 11 June.
