Manchester United set to make an improved offer to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace

Manchester United are reportedly going to make an improved offer to Crystal Palace to sign right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer. It was reported on Monday that Palace had rejected a bid of £40 million from United for the 21-year-old, which showed that nothing had really changed and that United still aim to penny-pinch.

United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to see Wan-Bissaka as his first-choice option to be signed in the right-back position this summer, although United has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain right-back, Thomas Meunier. In order to kick on this summer, executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward will need to get quality signings for his manager, not just players that could be used as commercial pawns.

The 21-year-old is already suggested to be one of the best right-backs in the Premier League after emerging at Palace, which is understandable as to why United are interested in signing the player. Antonio Valencia has left the club this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the month and Ashley Young is no longer cut out to start for the club.

Diogo Dalot, who was signed by Jose Mourinho last summer, needs time to raise his experience, although Solskjaer has played him as a right-winger during the past season, which might be with a view to converting him into an attacking player or it just could have been because United did not have a player suitable to play in that position and Dalot was showing promise in attack and given the rile.

Wan-Bissaka, 21, played 39 times for Palace last season, playing in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. He assisted four goals; three of them in the Premier League, also receiving four yellow cards and one red. He played a total of 3,473 minutes of football. If he signs for United, he could be the preferred right-back option at the club for at least a decade, if it works out for him.

Last season, in the Premier League alone, Wan-Bissaka played 35 times, winning 13 times, losing 15 times and drawing seven times. He made a total of 1,165 passes, averaging at 33 per match. He created four chances, also putting in 56 crosses, 21% of those successful. Ashley Young had a 21% accuracy from 197 crosses during the past season with United.
