Manchester United target could leave this summer, says agent

Manchester United target Alvaro Morata could leave Real Madrid this summer, according to his agent. The 24-year-old has already been the subject of a £52 million bid by United this summer, which was rejected by the La Liga and UEFA Champions League holders with a £78 million fee demanded. United have raised their final id to £60 million for the player, which is yet to be accepted or declined and has been described as ‘an ultimatum’ to the Madrid club. It is understood that United are not wanting to spend more than £60 million on the Spanish striker. Morata is reported to not be happy with his predicament at Real Madrid, playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema throughout the season, which is not ideal for the player with him looking to earn a place in Spain’s FIFA World Cup squad next summer and playing football will be what helps him get selected.

Morata’s agent, Juanma Lopez has suggested that the player could leave los blancos this summer, which seems to have been on the cards even before the end of the season, which ended for the club with the 4-1 victory over Juventus in the UEFA Champions League final last Saturday. Lopez, speaking about the player’s possible intentions this summer, spoke to Foot Mercato which was reported by The Mirror, saying:

“Alvaro [Morata] is a player who wants to play a more important role. It is normal for an attacker who has scored 20 goals. I do not know if he will do another season at Madrid. The player will take a clear and definitive decision in the coming days. I have not yet met with the representatives from Real Madrid.”

It would seem that a few more days could have an answer here and it is important that should United be interested in the player, they make their move for him, showing Real Madrid that they will only pay what they have offered, walking away from the club’s demands, which seem to be over the top for a player who is not an important player for them, as has been the case over the past season. Morata made 43 appearances for Real Madrid last season, 24 appearances were from the bench, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, a hat-trick, and three braces included in his goals tally. Morata also assisted on five other goals in La Liga and the Champions League, meaning he played a part in 25 goals for Real Madrid last season. Morata had 76 shots on goal last season, 39 of those being on target.

Morata could thrive in the Premier League with the right players around him next season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a total of 28 goals for United last season, before his knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season anyway, which could be something Morata could offer too. United’s formation could change with United playing in a few different formations dependent upon the opposition, which could see the Spaniard as a lone striker or even paired with Marcus Rashford, which would be a good attacking line. Now we wait and see what becomes of the interest United and Jose Mourinho have shown in Alvaro Morata and whether it ends with the player signing for United in the coming days or weeks.
