Manchester United target to sign new deal, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be sold

Manchester United target Paulo Dybala is a player that is likely to leave Italy in the summer, according to Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini. That will not stop the club of the player from signing a new three-year contract this week. Dybala was reportedly subject to a failed bid by the Old Trafford club during the January transfer window, but Zamparini has suggested that he knows the player will be leaving his club, probably in the summer for a team in the Barclays Premier League.

The 21-year-old is no doubt a talented player and Zamparini himself has likened him to Sergio Agüero. With United’s strike force misfiring so far this season, and the likelihood that Robin van Persie will need to be replaced, the club would be silly to let a player like Dybala sign for one of their rivals. Currently United have Van Persie, Radamel Falcao and James Wilson who all operate as strikers. Wayne Rooney has played a midfield role since late last year, which is not really working at this moment in time, but if that continues, the club will be one striker short.

Next season, United hope to be in the UEFA Champions League, which would mean the club will need a bigger squad and four strikers would likely get matches in rotation, which we have seen in the past under Sir Alex Ferguson. Dybala, despite being 21, is a great prospect and can bag a few goals. His club president, Zamparini highly rates his, but he would, wouldn’t he. The player whose current contract expires in the summer of 2016, will be signing a new three-year deal this week, but that is thought to be a formality ensuring his fee will not shrink in the summer, with only 12 months remaining on his contract. Reported in the London Evening Standard, Zamparini said:

“Where do I see Dybala? Abroad. In order of likelihood, I’d say England, France, Germany and Spain. This week we’ll agree a contract renewal for three years, but if he carries on playing as he has done recently, a top club will come to sign him.

“Dybala is one of the best talents in the world, he’s a team player and he has three to five years of improvement in him. This renewal is also for his own good, because he is destined to play in a great team.”

Dybala has scored 10 goals for Palermo in Serie A this season, assisting in a further six goals, in 19 appearances, which is pretty good for a young striker. For a player so young to be earning the praise he is getting will almost certainly ensure many big clubs will be interested in the player, but the way Zamparini is talking, it is like he already has an idea of the player destination in the summer, but that will be down to him carrying on his current form throughout the second half of the season. Palermo ate currently in tenth place after 19 matches, so they are not in danger of being relegated at this moment in time, nor are they likely to earn a place in the UEFA Champions League.

The Argentinian will have fellow countrymen at Old Trafford, should that be his destination and I am sure Marcos Rojo and Angel Di Maria would welcome their compatriot with open arms, most probably they would be an attraction for the 21-year-old. The likes of Di Maria providing the talented striker with some key passes would be tempting for the eye. Louis van Gaal and his team of scouts will no doubt keep a keen eye on the player for the remainder of the season, especially if a bid was submitted for the player, it means that the Old Trafford club are more than interested in the player, who could become another newbie playing at the Theatre of Dreams at the start of the 2015/16 season.
