Manchester United to launch ambitious bid for Jadon Sancho if Paul Pogba leaves the club this summer

Once upon a time, Jadon Sancho was the number one target for Manchester United this summer. However, their bid to sign the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund winger was thwarted after the club failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. As Sancho was Solskjaer’s top target, he should remain just that and the club should attempt to sign him when they feel they can complete it.

It was reported by Sam Pilger on the Forbes website on Sunday that United have admitted that they will not be able to sign the 19-year-old this summer. However, if the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba did leave the club this summer, plans to sign Sancho would be revisited as they will have the money to reinvest in the playing squad.

Borussia Dortmund feel that they can still hang onto the former Manchester City Academy graduate, which could scupper United’s plans. Reports state that the winger is rated at £70 million but others have stated that the Bundesliga club will be seeking to receive £100 million or more for the 19-year-old. If Pogba, who is linked to Real Madrid and Juventus and Lukaku, who is linked to Inter Milan left, United could have the money to offer Dortmund.

Solskjaer has been looking to take United in a different direction as far as transfers were concerned. In the past six years, United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward has been targetting ready-made players and players who would be considered as world stars. However, that has not worked with the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao not working out and Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffering a season-ending injury, eventually leaving part-way through his second season at the club.

Other signings such as Alexis Sanchez have been largely embarrassing also with the Chilean getting massive wages each week but struggling to fit into this squad of players that have fallen from their perch of late. Pogba and Lukaku are two players who are not cutting it either. The Belgian striker is not performing as would have been desired and the French World Cup winner seems to want a new challenge rather than remain at United.

Solskjaer’s approach has started with the signing if 21-year-old winger, Daniel James who arrived from Swansea City in the last fortnight. United are linked to Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with hopes a deal could be reached this week and Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, a player the Norwegian has reportedly set a deadline to sign. United head off on their pre-season tour a week on Sunday, heading to Australia and the manager would like his transfer business, or most of it, to be concluded before then, in an ideal world at least.
