Juan Mata Waxes Lyrical About Ander Herrera

Quoted in the Daily Express, Juan Mata has heaped praise upon new team mate, and fellow compatriot Ander Herrera following the recent friendly against LA Galaxy.  The Spaniard was key in the 7-0 capitulation of the Americans, earning himself the Man of the Match. Chipping in with two assists for Ashley Young, and keeping the tempo up and passes flowing, Herrera earned his 90 minutes in Pasadena.

His performance prompted praise from all corners, and not least from Mata, who was quick to comment on the midfielder, signed from Bilbao in the summer, in the wake of events at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

“He is a great player and showed it in that match” the former Chelsea man said “I have known about him for a while from our days in the Spanish Youth Teams and he was very good against the Galaxy.”

Mata then went on to say:

“I am very happy for him, we have a great connection on and off the pitch. He can bring great things for us this year.”

The Spanish connection could well prove vital for United this season, and Herrera certainly has impressed in his first showing in red. Matas’ words come with encouragement, and having a good on and off pitch relationship will benefit the side greatly as they look to erase the disappointment of last season.

And based on the words if his team mates, and what was on show last night, the future certainly seems bright, and a stable midfield partner bought in in the coming weeks could well prove vital for the season, and bring out the best in the young Spaniard.

Herrera has arrived with big potential, and lots of talk and stats to back it all up. He was integral for his former club whilst in their ranks, and at the tender age of 24, he could prove to be much the same for United if he continues to build on his early start.

That being said, it is only early days, and it was only a friendly against a much less competetive opposition, so it is important not to get too far ahead of ourselves. Plenty of players have a successful tour, but don’t quite manage to make that transfer instantly to league action. And having never seen a great deal of him personally, a lot more will need to be seen to make a concrete judgement on our Spanish acquisition.
