Montpellier have put a €17 million price tag on Arsenal and Manchester United target Remy Cabella. Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the midfielder, but rivals United have been linked with the player recently. The 23-year-old is under contract at Montpellier until the summer of 2016, but the French club are thinking ahead amid possible bids for the midfielder during the January transfer window.
Wenger signed Olivier Giroud from Montpellier last summer, and although he was not the best finisher last season, he has turned into a goalscoring threat this season, perhaps a link up with former team-mate Cabella would make him even more dangerous. United have also been looking for some creativity from the midfield, but have so far failed. Cabella could be that player, but is the United interest in the player really there, or is it just tabloid rumours coming out ahead of the winter transfer window?
Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has suggested that the France U21 international will not be cheap, but it is far from the £100 million that was suggested in the press over the last few weeks. Nicollin told Midi Libre:
“If we are given €17m we will see.”
Whether this transfer happens for United or not, it is good to see the club linked with some promising midfield talent from across Europe. Reinforcements are clearly needed in January, with players like Anderson, Nani and Ashley Young clearly not the type of players United need right now. I know many will be upset I have included Nani, but what does he bring to the side apart from the offer of some world class football, which has been seen on rare occasions?
