MOTM: Excellent from Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Andreas Pereira

Football is back and I for one am excited for the season ahead. Manchester United’s Pre-season tour has taken them back to the USA and they have just played MLS outfit LA Galaxy. Manchester United lined up with 3-5-2 and it worked well as the Red Devils were 3-0 up at half-time with goals from Marcus Rashford (two) and Marouane Fellaini. The second half was where we first saw Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelöf wearing their Manchester United shirts. The final score was LA Galaxy 2-5 Manchester United, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial getting the goals in the second half for the fully changed United side.

Marcus Rashford

Is there anything that Rashford can’t do? The Englishman’s pace was a problem for LA Galaxy’s defence all afternoon. During the off-season, you can tell that Rashford has been working hard as he was a lot sharper than anyone on the pitch. Manchester United were 1-0 up within two minutes, with a lovely finish placed into the corner. Then around 20 minutes Rashford put United 2-0 up this time a nice ball from Juan Mata and Rashford placed it in the corner. He could have got himself a hat-trick but two goals on his first game of the new season it was a good performance from the forward.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan was one of the eleven changes that Jose Mourinho made at half-time and he was lively and was involved in most of the attacks that United made in the second half. Running centrally at the LA Galaxy defence and also caused them trouble all half. Mkhitaryan scored United’s fourth goal with a very nice pass into the net. Every time Pogba or Pereira got the ball they looked for the Armenian and his direct running and the intelligence of Anthony Martial and Lukaku meant United had three up front.

Andreas Pereira

Andreas Pereira was playing alongside Paul Pogba in central midfield and did an excellent job. The Brazilian looked calm and composed on the ball and held his position well playing more defensively than normal. Pereira made some great turns on the ball and his passing was excellent. The Brazilian was quietly going about his business and was impressive in doing so. He was also the designated corner taker and Manchester United should have scored with at least one of his corners delivered into the box.

Everyone played well for the Red Devils in their first game of the Tour and I look forward to seeing them in action again next week against Real Salt Lake. Lindelöf and Lukaku have only just started to train with their new teammates so every game and training session will improve the side with these players start to gel.
