Mourinho furious with Pogba over hamstring injury – reports

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is furious with midfielder Paul Pogba over his latest hamstring injury which will keep him out of action for between four and six weeks. The French midfielder limped out of the 3-0 victory over FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening after just 19 minutes of the match.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday evening that the player would be out of action for four to six weeks, which is yet to be confirmed by Mourinho or United and could be part of Friday’s press conference after of the Premier League match against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Sun journalist Martin Lipton has reported that Mourinho and his medical staff blame the player for his latest injury after he did not heed their advice, Pogba has suffered a hamstring injury before and it was feared that a recurrence of that injury may not be all that far away, which happened earlier in the week.

Pogba is now set to miss a large chunk of the Autumn fixtures for United which will see him out of action for Everton, Burton Albion, Southampton, CSKA Moscow, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Benfica along with France’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Belarus next month.

The £89 million signing from Juventus in the summer of 2016 will have little sympathy from his manager and the clubs medical staff if the information provided by Lipton is actually correct. In fact, the player could have caused problems for United, which at the end of the day is all part and parcel of football these days.

Manchester United without many injuries has been strange, especially when you consider the revolving door of injuries the club has endured over the four and a bit years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired from the helm of the club taking a director’s role and helping to appoint David Moyes who was succeeded by Ryan Giggs on an interim level, then Louis van Gaal before Mourinho was brought in to guide the club back to success, which he started to do last season.

Pogba missed a handful of matches last season with a hamstring injury and it has been suggested by Lipton that the player was given some pointers in order to stop that from happening again as a recurrence of that injury could be costly, and it seems it will be for both Mourinho and the player.

Pogba has allegedly been receiving treatment from a personal trainer rather than heeding the advice given by United’s staff, the player opting to run a personal regime, which may have contributed to his latest injury which is set to see him on the sidelines missing the biggest match of the season, the Premier League clash with Liverpool in a months time, United’s first big test of the new season.

The Frenchman left Old Trafford on crutches on Tuesday evening and has a scan at the club’s Aon Training Complex in Carrington on Wednesday, which has suggested the player will be out for four to six weeks. Mourinho and the club’s medical staff think that Pogba’s personal training regime could have contributed to the injury with him not following the instruction provided by the club’s staff, which could leave the player out of favour by the manager if there is any fall out from this, which is unlikely.

Perhaps Mourinho will enlighten us about the injury to Pogba in his press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of the Everton clash at Old Trafford on Sunday? Maybe he will say nothing, just confirm the player will miss the match. Now we wait.
