Paul Pogba wants to win everything with Manchester United this season

Manchester United midfielder and former world record transfer Paul Pogba has stated that he wants to win everything in terms of silverware with the Old Trafford club this season. Pogba, who signed for £89 million coming from Juventus a year ago, breaking the then world record, which has itself been broken this summer with Neymar heading to Paris Saint-Germain in a €222 million payment of the player’s buyout clause with former club Barcelona. Last season, Pogba helped his side clinch the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League, earning a UEFA Champions League group stage place at the same time, which United needed having finished sixth in the Premier League.

Pogba, who also experienced defeats last season, especially to Chelsea in the semi-final of the Emirates FA Cup as the ten holders crashed out having lost 1-0, has stated that the team are seeking the challenges which will see them push to win trophies, something manager Jose Mourinho has inspired the players to do, something which had been lacking since the retirement of former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, who stood down at the end of the 2012/13 season, the last time United ended the season as Premier League champions. This season though, United will be expected to form a title challenge, even end the season lifting the trophy, which would be a great experience having sat the last four seasons out of contention. Speaking to Sky Sports, Pogba said:

“What’s a good season? Winning everything! We are Manchester United and we want to get back to being the big Manchester United.

“We want to win more trophies and do better in the Premier League and we’re obviously happy to be back in the Champions League. We’re here to do great things.

“Do I have to be more of a leader? No, I’m just myself. I’m the same, talking, encouraging players. I’m 24 now but when you are on the pitch there is no age.

“When I was young I was doing the same. A good season for me? Winning everything! A player has a great season when the team does great. That’s it.”

Jose Mourinho has made three new additions so far this summer with Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Pogba’s best friend, Romelu Lukaku, who made a £75 million switch from Everton to the Theatre of Dreams and could end up costing United £90 million, which is he continues his goalscoring ability and helps United win more matches, would be money well spent. Pogba has backed Lukaku, Matic and Lindelof to all succeed at his new club, saying:

“He’s [Lukaku] had a good pre-season. Scoring goals, that’s what we were expecting. [Nemanja] Matic, you can see he’s been working hard.

“He’s settled in the team like he was there for the whole of pre-season. We’re happy. Victor [Lindelof], too, you can see his quality straight away. We have a very good group.

“We [Lukaku and Pogba] talked about it last season, wondering if one day we would play together and it’s happened this season so I’m very happy. We all are. We have a good relationship.”

United will start their Premier League season against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday, a match which will see the return of former striker Javier Hernandez, who signed for the Hammers from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the season. Mourinho has previously stated that when Louis van Gaal sold the Mexican, it was the wrong decision and he, perhaps would not have sold the player, who had been known to score some great goals, most of which from the bench. The match on Sunday will be part of Nissan Super Sunday and will start on Sky Sports Premier League at 15:30 BST, kick off 16:00 BST.

Pogba seems raring to go, as do his teammates. A good start this season will be needed, something which happened last season, but Mourinho is more aware of his team this season and the player he has bought into it. Come on United!
