Pedro to Manchester United soon says the Barcelona manager!

Pace and Creativity, two things, that according to Louis van Gaal, will be crucial, however still missing, for Manchester United to be a worthy title contender this season. With Angel Di Maria now a Paris Saint Germain player, a big void has been left behind, disturbing Van Gaal’s plans for the season.

Van Gaal, however, is reported to have found the much-needed pace and creativity in the Barcelona winger, Pedro Rodriguez. This transfer has been speculated since the time, Di Maria was reported to be on his way to Paris but is now testing a lot of supporter’s patience, getting stretched so long. However, the transfer story might be nearing its end and as obvious as it may sound, United might be able to seal the deal for the player soon.

Luis Enrique, Barcelona manager, ahead of his team’s clash against Sevilla, agreed to the fact that he might still involve the player in his playing XI, irrespective of what is happening in the Transfer window. He expanded on his philosophy by saying:

“I have never decided to pick a player or leave him out because of the transfer window. I would like to keep all my players through the whole season.”

Continuing further, the Barcelona manager, seemed resigned to the fact, that the Pedro transfer will be concluded soon:

“But we have talked enough about Pedro. The solution will arrive soon.”

This should be a welcome news for all the United fans, who were looking for a Di Maria replacement. It has been opinionated by many but more importantly the Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, that Pedro might be a better fit for United than what Di Maria was. He said:

“Louis van Gaal’s teams play in a structured way. He wants his players to stick rigidly to their positions and maximise their area of the pitch. Angel Di Maria’s game was based on running free from the right or the left. He didn’t fit into Van Gaal’s set-up and that’s why they have sold him.”

This should only make things better for the fans after the bitter and roughly handled Di Maria transfer. But United would have liked to have Pedro by their side a lot sooner in order for him to have a significant settling-in period. Now, when and if Pedro arrives at Old Trafford, he will be thrown in to the fire immediately and would be expected to shine out of it. The reason, as per the reports, for the delay in the signing and joining process is the unavailability of Neymar for the UEFA Super Cup tie, to happen on Tuesday in Georgia. Enrique would like to have the services of Pedro for the cup tie and hence was holding on to the player till the match ends. But with the Cup tie out of its way in a few hours, Pedro might have the move completed soon enough.

Most of Pedro’s team mates and the manager would like him to stay put at Barcelona but with his desire to have more game time, the move looks imminent. Iniesta and Dani Alves both were completely accepting of the fact that Pedro might leave and would respect his decision if he decides to do so. Iniesta said:

“He is still our team-mate and is here to win the first title of the season. I wish he will stay because he is a great player and he gives a lot to the team.”

While Alves added his support for Pedro’s move by saying:

“It is Pedro’s decision. If he stays we will be happy but if he leaves we will respect his decision.”

With the move being ever so close, the supporter’s excitement will be at a high. Especially with the display on the opening weekend, where United lacked the depth and penetration in the final third, the incoming of Pedro will be highly anticipated. Pedro won’t necessarily be the super star signing for United but one can be rest assured, that with his work rate and intelligent play, he can make the attack look threatening again.

Ahead of the UEFA Super Cup commencing this evening, Barcelona’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez stated on TV3:

“Pedro asked us for the transfer.

“We are not going to accept less than €30 million for him, it’s not negotiable.”
