Manchester United played their first pre-season match on the new season in the early hours of Thursday morning, beating MLS side LA Galaxy 7-0 in what was also Louis van Gaal’s first match in charge of he new side. The Dutch manager fielder his side in his favoured 3-5-2 formation, which saw United pressing further up the pitch, which was refreshing from the football we started to see just 12 months ago. Danny Welbeck started the scoring, with Wayne Rooney slotting in a penalty before completing his brace just before half time.
Nine changes at half time gave other players the chance to impress the new manager, something that I feel they did. Reece James scored a brace, followed by Ashley Young scoring a brace, completing the scoring, which LA Galaxy will want to forget ahead of their MLS clash with top-of-the-table Seattle Sounders this weekend. New signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera impressed, with the latter being voted as the Man of the Match, deservedly so. Here are some pictures of the rout.
